Saints Put In Bid For Lazio Defender
Monday, 14th Aug 2017 15:48

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Saints have slapped in a bid of €17m for Wesley Hoedt.

Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, are claiming that Saints have put in a bid of €17m for the former AZ Alkmaar defender Wesley Hoedt currently at Lazio .

Hoedt who has been at lazio since the summer of 2015 has been linked with both Saints and Everton in the past few months.

Whether this sudden burst of transfer bidding or at least rumour of it has anything to do with the completed takeover of the club today is unclear, but certainly it is hoped that Saints will bring in at least one central defender before the end of the window.

If there is truth in this rumour and Saints sign Hoedt then it seems unlikely Lazio would accept any offer from Liverpool to sign De Vrij, one of their other key defenders. I believe De Vrij was supposed to be Liverpool's fall back if they failed to get VVD. If VVD is still not for sale that leaves Liverpool with a scuppered plan B as well. Happy days.
