McQueen Linked With A Move To Leeds
Friday, 5th Jan 2018 10:03

Sam McQueen is reported to be a target for Leeds United in the January transfer window with several other Championship clubs also linked.

Sam McQueen seems to be being touted by Saints for a loan spell in the Championship judging by national newspaper reports, Leeds United are said to be heavily linked to take him with Reading and Brenford also fro that division also said to be interested.

McQueen's career at Saints looked to be heading for the exit door at the start of last season, a loan spell at Southend in League One was not a great success and he was usually on the bench with only 4 starts and it was hard to see a way forward for him at St Mary's, given that he had played only 1 game for the club that only 8 mins as sub in an FA Cup tie in January 2014.

But injuries to both Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett meant he was converted into a left back and he made 5 Premier League starts plus several more as sub plus outings in the Europa League and cups.

But with Bertrand fit and Targett back from long term injury his opportunities have been limited this season, so far he has made only 4 sub appearances totalling 36 minutes in the Premier League plus a start at Manchester United with both Bertrand and Targett out injured.

Now turning 23 next month he needs games and it seems that Saints are ready to send him out on loan so that he can get a little more experience under his belt and perhaps not only find whether his best position is as a winger or a full back.

It is still hard to see a future for him at the club long term, Ryan Bertrand looks set to be here for a little while longer and Matt Targett is ahead of him in the pecking order.

Whats this to save money on his wages or to prepare him for the Championship next season with the rest of the Team?

If he wants championship experience then why don't we loan him to ourselves. Next season

Keep him. He's never let us down and Bertrand could be off if City come knocking .

Someone is going to make the decision, but personally I'd prefer him to Targett at LB.

He should be ahead of Targett for me.

We could actually try playing him in his preferred Left Wing position - I'm sure he would put in more determined performances than those of Redmond, Tadic and Boufal. He would also offer the full back an option down the line, rather than the usual suspects who disappear infield and force the full back to go sideways or backwards all the time.

He needs game time and he won't get it here. He's not good enough to be a regular starter in the PL.
