Saints Announce Danny Ings Signing
Thursday, 9th Aug 2018 20:34

Saints have officially announced the signing of Danny Ings on a season long loan from Liverpool.

Saints have issued the following press release

Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce it has completed the deadline-day signing of Liverpool striker Danny Ings.

The Southampton-born 26-year-old joins on a season-long loan, ahead of a permanent move next summer.

Ings began his career further along the south coast, with Bournemouth, before moving to Burnley in 2011, going on to make 130 appearances and scoring 43 goals for the Clarets.

His form at Turf Moor earned him a move to Anfield in 2015 and, although he was restricted by injury, the forward impressed during his time on the pitch in Merseyside.

Southampton manager Mark Hughes said:

“There was significant competition for Danny, with a lot of clubs keen to complete a deal for him, so we’re clearly delighted that he chose to join us.

“We have admired him for some time now, not only for his ability, but also his character and personality, which we feel will be an ideal fit in our dressing room.

“He’s obviously a local boy, who gives us another excellent option up front.

“He didn’t get to play as much as he would have liked at Liverpool, but he has been injury-free for some time now and has a real point to prove.

“It’s a great boost for us on the eve of the season to bring another quality player into the squad, and we’re excited about what he can bring to the group.”

What's not to like. He is a great addition to the squad. Can see him doing well and becoming a fans' favourite.

A decent end to the transfer window. Roll on Sunday now!

Important last minute landing which pleases me. He passed his medical and let´s try not to focuse to much on his past injury history. I´d probably prefer a striker a little taller and tougher in the air, but all in all I´m satisfied. It´s a plus for me that he is english.

great signing. In the end a good transfer window, new goalie, new defender, 2 midfielders and a new striker. COYR

I have to admit I wasn't overwhelmed at the prospect of signing Ings but having read what Klopp and Hughes have said about his character, attitude and enthusiasm I'm converted. Welcome Danny, thankfully people like me aren't trusted with signing players, sometimes it's hard to see through past injury problems and realise that we might just have got a gem.

Like Highfield I wasn't overwhelmed but unlike Highfield I wouldn't take a thing that Clown Klopp says seriously. He is, after all, a total disgrace (Klopp not Highfield). I hope and pray that the 'experts' predicting great things for Liverpool this year are wrong - and more importantly that those saying we will stay up comfortably are right.

I obviously hope that Ings works out but Austin also, of course, passed his medical....

you can only hope his injury worries are behind him. A good signing I wanted us to sign him from burnley , so at last we have him. A loan move is good planning , we get him, if he gets a bad injury again then we don't buy him.
or he scores shed loads like I reckon he will and we sign him permanently.
.
Years ago I used to watch him play in kids football and even then he was banging them in with one or two others that were just as good or even better than him however they didn't go on and have the determination that he did after being rejected time and again.

I may be a tad bias but I'm excited for saints now, there is definitely something about the lad.

Darthvader - I think rather than 'having the option' to not sign him, this is a loan with an agreement to buy him next Summer. Don't think it's one we can pull out of, even if he breaks his leg and doesn't play this season. Not sure why that's the case - perhaps FFP or we're more skint than we thought?

Think this is a great signing. Obviously the injury problems are a concern, but provided they're in the past, we've signed ourselves a very good striker. Has scored goals at this level, has a big point to prove, and he's rejoining his boyhood club - what's not to love?
