Harrison Reed Injury Could End His Season Thursday, 18th Apr 2019 08:00 Harrison Reed may have played his last game for Blackburn Rovers after injuring an ankle in training. Harrison Reed is returning to Southampton to have an ankle injury picked up in training assessed, he has already had a scan at Blackburn and the initial results don't look good so Saints are going to have a look and it is expected that his season will be over and he will return to Staplewood for treatment on the injury. Rovers have four games remaining, two over the Easter period, before a trip to Reed’s former loan club Norwich on April 27 and then the final game of the season against Swansea at Ewood on May 5, with nothing really left to play for at either end of the table it is likely that Sainst will err on the side of caution and insist his season is over. Tony Mowbray the Blackburn manager had this to say: “Reedy is going to be missing. He’s going back to Southampton at the end of this week for them to assess what they want to do with him,” Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph. “I don’t know the exact name of the problem, it’s at the top of his ankle. “It was very innocuous in training. He hit a 30 or 40 yard diagonal pass and his standing leg had a bit of a click in it and he jumped up in the air. It was nothing, no tackle, or twist. “It was pretty concerning that he had damaged something just by kicking the ball. He’s had a scan. The medical department don’t think it’s too bad but they think it’s going to be a couple of weeks." “Might he get the last game of the season? Maybe. “He will go back to Southampton for them to assess it and then decide whether he’s coming back or start the rehabilitation programme there.” For Reed it is an uncertain future, his time at Saints looks set to end this summer, at 24 he has not made the breakthrough that at one time looked likely and he has not played in the Premier League for Saints in over two years when he was an 85th minute sub in a 1-0 win at West Brom and that in itself was one of only three Premier League appearances he made in that season totalling 62 minutes in total. He has two years left on his contract but in the last two years he has dropped down the pecking order at St Mary's and with the likes of Callum Slattery now breaking through into a midfield packed with plenty of talent and options it would seem that this summer would be the time for him to move on. From a personal point of view he needs to be at a club on a permanent basis where he can establish himself on a regular basis and from a Saints point of view they need to perhaps get a few bob for him that can add to their transfer kitty for the summer. Reed was a popular figure amongst Saints supporters after making his debut in the 2013/14 season, but since then in the Premier League he started only 6 games plus another 11 as sub but these stats show he has not quite made the breakthough and forced his way into the reckoning and as said before he played little in 2016/17 and has spent the last two seasons away from the club on loan. He looks very capable of flourishing in the Championship and there will be no shortgage of potential buyers at that level.
