Why Would Saints Sign Kyle Walker - Peters From Spurs ?
Wednesday, 7th Aug 2019 08:51

Kyle Walker Peters is being linked heavily with Saints, but why would Saints be interested in the Spurs right back ?

Although it is possible that Cedric could leave St Mary's in the final day of the transfer window, the suggestion that Kyle Walker - Peters might be coming in on loan seems to be a strange rumour.

Mauricio Pochettino is known to be an admirer or Walker - Peters and indeed it was only 8 months ago that the player signed a new five year deal at Spurs, however his progress at the club has been slow and at 22 years old he has only made 9 Premier League appearances and a grand total of 19 in all competitions.

There is of course strong competition for the right back spot at White Hart Lane and it is understandable why Spurs would want him to go out on loan for a season to get some experience and certainly he is good enough for that to be at a Premier League club, but why would Spurs want him to go to Saints ?

We of course have Yan Valery in that spot another highly rated youngster and one who has performed well in pre season, would Walker - Peters, step immediately into his spot if he arrived ?

The answer is no and that being the case why would Pochettino want to loan his player to a club where he will be a back up, he might as well keep him at Spurs if that is the case.

So it seems that the reason he is being linked is lazy journalism, in the quest for a good rumour or perhaps at the request of the players agent, a hack has put together a promising youngster with the club who have the best reputation for developing youngsters and giving them a chance.

But they have taken no account of the situation at St Mary's in his position, yes if Saints do move Cedric on in the next 24 hours or so we will have a gap to fill as back up to Valery, yes it would be great for it to be a player of Walker - Peters quality, but overall the deal doesn't fit Spurs needs or Saints for that matter.

Spurs sold thier right back in the summer to Athlectio Madrid i believe. So if anything they are short in the position. Seems unlikely to me.

Indeed they sold Trippier to Atlético but they've also a long term injury to Foyth who had been in line to start. Walker-Peters will be starting for Spurs in the first month at least. This is a non-mover

I suspect it's just another piece of pure fiction.

More importantly,it's increasingly beginning to look like we are going to start the season and play until at least the January window with the same central defenders. What could possibly go wrong?

Why oh why have we not a Good Centre Half in yet? Even if we have to get a loan to buy one we should have. The Transfer window for us to buy players closes on the 8-08 19 but we can still sell or loan players to European clubs until the 2-09-19.

Agree with you Nick, why link him with us when it should be obvious to all that Jan Valery looks the real deal. Maybe next year when PSG come in for our lad but now? It doesn't't wash!

Only makes sense if Cedric leaves.
