Hasenhuttl Says One Player Could Still Come In
Thursday, 8th Aug 2019 14:20

Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that Saints could yet complete a deal on an incoming transfer before the day is over with the club working hard on all fronts.

With Sky Sports reporting that Charlie Austin is about to join West Brom for a £5 million fee on a 2 year deal, good business seeing that it is more than we paid for him 3 1/2 years ago Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is still hopeful that Saints can announce a signing before the end of the deadline.

Hasenhuttl said: “The phone is hard working and there a lot of meetings in the back so I think we should wait.

“It can be that one player is leaving us today and we still have players in our mind and maybe one is coming in.

“It’s very busy behind the scenes."

“We always speak about our possibilities and try to stay on track which means the baggage must be perfect for us.

“We try to bring in players who have the perfect personality for our team which is what we have with Che Adams and Moussa Djenepo.

“If we think the financial risk is ok then we will do it.”

So there you have it, the club is still working hard to try and get something done, the departure of Charlie Austin will bring in a decent chunk to add to the kitty but more importantly will reduce the wage bill down significantly, Southampton waits with baited breath.

I don´t see the return of Victor Wanyama as a sensation if it happens. It´s been difficult for him at Tottenham. I´m not sure if he is as good and fit as when we sold him, though. How many times have you read in the paper or on the internet that he had a great game for Tottenham? That said I do remember his first timer vs Liverpool in injury time...
And I can see that an extra midfielder would suit us nicely - even if a new CB is a more urgent need.

What I am sure of, is that Ralph knows what he is doing, and if he thinks we will do alright without a new CB, it must be because he has trust in the CBs we have, and because he has the caliber to have succeeded significantly - and will keep succeeding during the season - in improving them, perhaps supported by his trust in 1 or 2 capable youngsters from our academy if called upon.
Never underestimate the value of showing people - the right people - trust.

Could be a cheeky CB loan. Personally I think Palace have been pretty astute to get Cahill in for nowt.

Disappointing to see Sessegnon for 25m cant help but think if we hadn't gone of the rails that's the kind of player we would have been getting.

RE big Vic... unfortunately even at 28 his stature will mean that he will slow a little and become more injury prone. I cant help but think that in the modern game his is just... well too big?
