Saints Name Their Price For Elyounoussi
Wednesday, 20th Nov 2019 16:36

Celtic have reportably approached Saints and asked them to name their price for Mo Elyounoussi, should Saints take a big cut to get him off the books and free space for January.

Reports North of the Border suggest that Saints have asked for a fee of £10 million to make the move permanent and are willing to take a big loss on the deal.

Celtic fans are gleeful at the prospect, they rate the St Mary's flop at much higher and were expecting Saints to play hardball and look for the price they paid or somewhere near it.

But it seems that we would rather cut our losses now and bring in money that can be spent in January and free up wages off the books to bring in new recruits.

I would say that is a wise move by Saints and although they should not let him go too cheaply, we know what issues we have suffered from other player whom have gone out on loan because prospective buyer have baulked at the wages.

Saints need to price to sell and get some bodies off the books permanently.

Elyounoussi has been in excellent form since joining on loan back in August, scoring seven goals and assisting six in 12 games in all competitions, but playing well for a dominant team in a League where his side is normally well on top is far from the situation he faces in the Premier League with Saints.

Is this the sum required to pay Ralph off?

its just laughable that anyone that shows some promise has to be sold never a thought of keeping him to help our relegation battle

YES......
He MIGHT be good if he came back, but the big question is ..who would he replace ?.

Saints slow build-up and possession play isn't his style. He was the proverbial square peg.
The formation that Celtic play suits him perfectly.. rather like when he was at at Basel ..and the level of Swiss football and the top of the SPL is somewhat similar, too.

£10 million ?...take the money and accept the loss..Keeping him another 2 years would cost us £6 million in salary for someone who wouldn't be a regular first choice anyway.
BUT get a good sell-on clause... just in case Liverpool come calling next season.

Agree with underweststand. It also shows how poor player investment and board management have reduced our reputation and standing in the football world.

Remember when we used to sell top notch players for top money? Now we sell mediocrity which succeeds once it leaves the fug of at Mary's.

Sell intricate talent which cannot flourish playing lumpen flat footed reductionist football.

It'll put more money in the kitty for next season's relegation battle.

My concern is not the amount of any fee but whether or how the owners will spend any of it on a player/s. Their recent track record isn't exactly stellar is it?

On a passing note Nick, all credit to you for your apology in regard to the Arsenal article and for changing the header and content.

Players do seem to kick on when they leave Saints. Previously it used to be those that we thought were good, and then more controversial ones that split fans and now ones we thought were hopeless flourish elsewhere. We can cite the weaker league competition, but I'm more worried we've got into the habit of stifling talent and are unable to get the best out of our players. One thing's for certain £10m whilst being a good cutting losses situation is not enough to buy a top quality defender. Just look what we paid for Vestegaard.

'Underweststand' of course Mo wont fit in to our setup that's why he's out on loan in the first place and no we don't really want him back but are you telling me that all those that featured against Leicester cant be dropped or trusted to play for the club?
Mo could replace any of them on current form but the point is we will buy a player for 1 or than 2 million and then Gao will pocket the rest and we will be left with a load of JWP's

..1970 ... my point was really that Saints are not able to play the Celtic formation that suits Moi so well in the SPL, and certainly not with our present squad in the EPL , and probably not in the forseeable future either - if we continue to play the way we are.

"Someone" wrote that the Board had decided to keep Ralph...and sack the team (OK... maybe not all of them), but there is some truth in that. Those who were in the squad that managed to survive the drop last season must be getting that sinking feeling again ...and their confidence will drop away every time we concede yet another goal.

Everyone who has gone through a traumatic period in life knows "that feeling" never really goes away, and long after those players have overcome it ..(if they ever do) ..the result will still stay in the record books ..FOREVER. If some of you have had that bad experience at work.. think how it must have felt for the team being watched by 28,000 other people on a wet and windy evening.
Ryan Bertrand will have his own memories of the 10 minutes he spent on the pitch, and even 100 cap Yoshida can only put it down to experience, and try to move on.
Anyone who played that evening and still can't see the end of the tunnel will need to make some serious decisions about their career.
Expect to see some new faces in defence after Christmas ..whether Ralph is still here to select them...or if someone else does.

Moi has a found a team that can use his skills effectively, we tried - and failed . It's time to get something back from that bad deal. Looking at some of the "cheaper buys" we made in the past who did succeed, we see that many of our legendary players cost the club very little ..and very few of the " big buys " we did make came anywhere near being "the real thing" , so don't let's condemn anyone who won't cost us at least £15 million before we've seen them in action. Not everyone is going to be " a square peg ".
