Like many fans I'm sure , I would have been glad to accept one point at 3pm last Saturday, (given a 30 year record of zero League wins v. the Gunners) only to feel "we wuz robbed " of all three by the ref's watch at the end. Much as I dislike the expression " a six-pointer " it's obvious that this game (and those coming later) might also be classed in the same way. A win will help push you up the table, and even a draw does little to help long term recovery, and it's a win at all costs. Both clubs will see this game as "winnable", but it should be noted - with caution - that Saints managed only 2 wins in 6 matches against last season's relegated sides - and even lost both games against Fulham. Finishing top 6, playing Euro League and going to a Cup Final seem light years away now , and the keyword is SURVIVAL. Aside from Ralph's heroics last season, December will be the ultimate proof of his ability as a Prem. manager, and may well decide where we play football next season.

We have som good games coming up, all looking winnable. We have a better squad than december last year and I believe we can win against Watford and use that victory as a platform from which we can move on. Ings is lethal at the moment and Armstrong has finally broken into the team with the important attacking skills he possesses. Redmond and Djenepo are also quite dangerous and Boufal looks dangerous from the bench. Hojbjerg and JWP can score from distance, and I hope Ralph can sort out our defense. Then we should be fine. Maybe even Obafemi and Adams can find some form now.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Southampton Polls |
