Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that it is a mixed bag for the squad as they prepare to face West Ham in a vital six pointer at St Mary's on Saturday.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has spoken about his injury situation ahead of Saturday and confirmed that Yan Valery will again be missing with a virus.

"Yan Valery was out the last two weeks," Hasenhüttl asserted. "He is out for longer, he has a virus, an infection which will take time"

But it is good news as Stuart Armstrong may be able to return.

"The good thing is that Stu Armstrong is back in training, he's back with the team - he can be an option for the weekend."

Hasenhuttl is also optimistic that he may well have the services of Sofiane Boufal available.

"Sofiane is still not able to train without an injection, there's pain in his toe. So this takes time. We've tried to get him fit for the last two games, but it's not the perfect situation if you aren't able to train much in the week."

"We will have a look how we improve this issue, but for now everyone else is fit."

So good & bad news for Saints, but the squad should be able to cope and go out against the Hammers with some sort of confidence after a spell that has seen them pick up 7 points in the last 4 games.

KriSaint added 01:06 - Dec 13 Yeah , it sounds a little weird with the virus thing..., but I´m a doctor and there is a quite common (not least for people Valery´s age) virus that can cause some problems for more than a couple of days, and that is "mononucleosis" - some call it glandular fever - and I hope it is NOT the case, as it can typically take several weeks to recover fully from for a well-trained athlete. (A quick-diagnosis kit can support the diagnosis in 10 minutes). Anyway, I wish Valery the fastest of recoveries as I almost suffer physically myself from Cedrics weak defending. Sorry Cedric, but I´m just saying it as it is. Valery is physically stronger and much better on the ball and on crosses.
