Saints Sign Kyle Walker Peters
Wednesday, 29th Jan 2020 20:17

As predicted for the last 24 hours Saints have now completed the signing of Kyle Walker Peters from Tottenham Hotspur for the rest of the season

Kyle Walker Peters has joined Saints on a loan deal for the rest of the season although it appears it is just a loan and there is no option to purchase at the end of the season, although that does not mean the signing might not be made permanent, merely at this point there is no fee agreed with Spurs or terms with the player.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl said:

“I am very pleased to have Kyle with us for the rest of the season. He is a talented young player, with good defensive and attacking qualities.

“It was clear this month that we could use additional support in the full-back positions, and Kyle was exactly the profile of player I was hoping we could bring in.

“He will be a good addition to our squad, and we are pleased that he has chosen to join us ahead of a number of other clubs who were interested in signing him.”

Kyle Walker-Peters said: “On a personal note I'm just grateful for the opportunity I've been given by the manager and the club.

“I come here looking to help the club improve and improve myself. I just want to win as many games as possible and enjoy playing football.

“I had a chat with the manager and he assured me I was the type of player he liked and I got that feeling from watching Southampton that I could fit in well.”

Walker Peters is at an age where he needs to be playing regular first team football, something he hasn't got at Spurs, his undoubted talent has not yet reached it's full potential and it's hoped that at Saints he might just get the game time to truly show his quality.

If cedric goes we have In fact weakend our defence not improved at all another money saver for Goa, and all we are going to do is get Peter's up to speed for Levi to make money on.
The question is who is worse Levi or goa

I'm sure he's a good player and a great back up for Cedric , but if Cedric goes to arsenal ?! Then why not keep Cedric till the end of season and buy kwp then? We will end up at square one when he goes back to spurs anyway. Looking for two right backs
And not playing Valery is odd. No virus lasts this long, it doesn't keep him out of Buddha or the casino on a Saturday night either so wtfigo?

Seems fairly pointless at first sight, loaning someone out and then getting a loaned player in for less than half a season.

Just like our young players, Spurs wouldn't loan him if he was just going to sit on the bench, so I guess it makes sense. Presumably no way Cedric will be signing a new contract so this could be a gentle way to find his replacement.

Shame as Cedric has played well since our resurgence. However everything changes and I wish him well.

Why is it Goa's fault? fans always love to have a scapegoat. It is quite clear that Cedric will not sign a new deal, so is free to leave in the summer regardless, so why not get in someone we can test as a replacement now (and no point having a replacement if Cedric is still in the way playing). If the replacement works out, I am sure we will negotiate a perm deal.

A bit more transparency wouldn't go amiss.
Swapping first team players around on the back of what we've been through recently looks reckless, and can't be to Ralph's liking, surely?
(schh...Gooners under the illusion that Cedric can play left back too?)

I think it is dangerous to assume what Ralph does and doesn't want. He clearly prefers to work with younger players and both Cedric and Bertrand have seemed to be out of favour from time to time. Indeed Ings could not get in the team at the start of the season. Although he appears open to changing his mind, he also clearly would prefer to bring in young talent and mould them to play the way he wants, rather than teach old dogs new tricks.

Hope Valery is fully fit as if Cedric and Danso leave as currently speculated we are very thin. Would have liked to have seen a quality centre back brought in as an exchange for Vestergaard who appears too slow for PL

Also think I heard that KWT would be unavailable for Liverpool and Spurs. Bad news that Armstrong is out too.

This signing only makes sense if Cedric isn't loaned out as we need cover at both right back and left back. Who says Cedric is going at the end of the season? i'm sure if we upped his wages he'd suddenly want to stay!
