Nathan Redmond Is Fit And Raring To Go
Saturday, 16th May 2020 08:59

One good thing to come out of the suspension of football is that starman Nathan Redmond who was out injured back in March and would have missed games, is now back fit and ready to go.

Saints are pleased to have Nathan Redmond back in the squad, but they will have to go easy on him to make sure that he is 100% ready for action, the issue the club and player had was that in lockdown on one hand it was good he now had the rest for the muscular injury to recover, on the other hand he hasn't has the medical supervision during that recovery to ensure that it is as strong as it was before.

That means they have to be extra cautious so that he doesn't over stretch it after a long period of inactivity.

Hasenhuttl said:

“For him, it was absolutely an advantage that we had this break.

“We must pay attention to when we return to training that we don’t overload him. We will have to be careful.”

Redmond's last game for the club was on February 5th in the defeat at Spurs in the FA Cup replay, so he has had a month longer than he rest of his team mates since his last game and will not have played for over 4 months on the intended return date of the Premier League.

At the time of the lockdown Saints were facing a dilemma in that Redmond was expected to be out for at least another 4 weeks and his natural replacement Moussa Djenepo was facing a 3 match ban after receiving a yellow card in the final game before the season was suspended, leaving Saints woefully short of firepower.

Djenepo will still have that suspension to serve when football returns, but hopefully we will have a fit again Nathan Redmond to now step back in.

I think we would all say the one player we really miss in the line-up is Nathan Redmond.

Would be nice to see him, Djenepo and Danny Ings together as a strike force before the end of the season.

Redmond was a big miss, still think our best 4 up front are Redmond, Armstrong, Ings, Long. With Djenepo still suspended and Redmond likely to start on the bench that should mean game time for Boufal. Having said that Adams has got an assist on him I personally would not mind some experimentation with Adams in the Redmond role to see how that works as I still think Adams has potential and would like us to keep him.
