Saints V Brentford Where Have We Met Before ! Wednesday, 16th Sep 2020 12:47 Saints take on Brentford at St Mary's this evening looking to have another good run in the League Cup, but where have we met them before, read on to find out. Aside from a pres season friendly a few years ago Saints haven't met Brentford since our brief sojourn in League One in 2009-11 and that is our only League meetings with them on a level footing in the last 60 years. Their last visit to St Mary's in December 2010 saw them win 2-0 with two first half goals, the return at Griffin park in April 2011 saw us closing in on promotion and a 3-0 win, first half goals from Adam Lallana and David Connolly putting us in the driving seat with Oscar Gobern putting the game to bed in the final minute. The season before saw two 1-1 draws Saints were looking to haul back a points deduction in August 2009 as the Markus Liebherr era started, Dan Harding scored to give us the lead but the Bee's scored 7 minutes from time to send most of the 19,169 home unhappy. The return game in January 2010 saw Lloyd James fire home in the 4th minute, but Brentford draw level again in the 83rd minute. In 2005 they drew at St Mary's 2-2 in the FA Cup after we had led 2-0, the replay in West London saw us go behind in the 4th minute before two goals from Peter Crouch and one from Kevin Phillips saw us home. We drew them at this stage of the League cup in 1997/98 and exactly 23 years ago tomorrow 17th September they visited the Dell in what was then the first game in a two legged round, Ken Monkou, Kevin Davies & Mickey Evans scored in a 3-1 win in front of 8,004. Two weeks later we won 2-0 at Griffin Park with Matt Le Tissier scoring twice in the first half to make it 5-1 on aggregate.
