Ralph Speaks About Contract Talks With Danny Ings
Thursday, 12th Nov 2020 14:00

Ralph Hasenhuttl has been speaking to the German media and one of the subjects brought up has been Danny Ings contract situation, read what our manager has to say about what's happening here.

Whilst talking to German football media outlet Kicker, Ralph was asked about the contract situation of Bayern Munich's David Alaba who has been linked with a January move to Liverpool give the Anfield club's current injury woes in the centre of defence.

The Saints boss remains hopeful he and his side won’t be in a similar situation as the Bundesliga winners are with Alaba.

“I don’t know the background, but it will be hard to find a face-saving solution for all parties. I hope we do not get into a similar situation,” Hasenhüttl explained.

“So, we have some players who are in demand, for example Danny Ings, where we are trying to extend the contract. We know that the player, who has a very high value in the club and among the fans, is also aware of this responsibility.

“Hopefully he will be advised well. We may not be a top six club, but I hope we have enough other arguments to convince him.”

So it seems contract talks remain ongoing, but far from concluded, in truth Hasenhuttl's words can sound worrying, but it should be noted that coaches and players from Germany & Austria are a lot more forthright than their English counterparts who usually keep their cards to their chests.

That can mean that they often give an answer in English that sounds very factual, but actually loses something in translation, I certainly hope so in this instance.

Over the years I have noted that agents seem to advise players not to rush into signing extensions , and play "hard to get" - even if they are happy to stay and don't want a move.
OK that's business - and a good bargaining position for them, as they don't have a lifetimes career in front of them.
Danny has already survived two career-threatening injuries and still came back, and I don't believe that he will be better appreciated anywhere else than with Saints. Hopefully, after all his " lost time", he will be pleased to be first on the score sheet every game, which might not be the case if he were to move and get EVEN more money but end up spending half of his remaining years coming off the bench to replace the likes of the (younger) Kane's and Rashford's at the so-called "big clubs"..
Who knows, he may end up getting that missing success with Ralph's new-look Saints.

Danny's recent knee injury may well work in our favour keeping bigger clubs from risking a huge fee Saints (or the player) cannot refuse, perhaps even his agent is shouting down the phone to him to improve his current contract before his knee goes for good! But, if (lwu) his knee injury is not serious it could have been the best timed injury we've had :-D

Air Florida is right. His sad injury history will probably deter the big money offers it would take to prise him away. It's ironically fortunate. So was the 0-9 if it means that Ralph stays long term because he knows he 'owes us one?.'
