Che Adams Should Ignore Scotland And Wait For England Call Up
Sunday, 22nd Nov 2020 09:19

According to the national media Che Adams is on the verge of a International call up for Scotland, but as tempting as this may be to the player with the Euro's due next summer, he is good enough to wait for what will surely be an England call up.

Che Adams was born in England, but his father is from Antigua, he was invited to join the Antigua and Barbuda squad for Caribbean Cup qualifiers in October 2014, but decided against accepting the invitation.

His maternal Grandmother is Scottish and he was approached by the Scottish Football Association in 2017, initially to consider playing for Scotland U21, and later for a senior friendly in November, but was not willing to commit himself at that time.

Now the media are claiming that Scotland are about to come calling again after the strikers great form since the restart back in July.

This must be tempting for Adams, back in 2017 he was playing for Birmingham City and had not yet produced the form that would eventually earn him a move to Saints and the Premier League, back then he faced a decision early in his career that could have a bigger impact later on.

But now he is showing his true class, Scotland are trying to get in first and can offer him the chance to play in the Euro's and perform on the European stage and to be blunt he would walk into Scotland's team.

But given the Tartan Army's record of qualifying for tournaments, Adams would be risking being out in the International wilderness in the next 6-8 years for one tournament.

It is surely only a matter of time before Gareth Southgate gives him the nod for a squad, he is one of the in form strikers in the Premier League and I would say he has better all round play than most of his rivals for a place in the squad, he is fast, he can score goals, he can create chances for others, he can press the opposition, his intelligent play off the ball creates space, he is one of the most complete strikers I have seen at Saints in recent years.

If he continues his good form and the injury to Danny Ings has allowed him to come to the fore as the main man, it would be an absolute travesty if he did not get the call up for the country of his birth and that means England.

So if I was Che Adams I would hold fast on my decision from 2017, I would stand firm in my belief in my own ability and I would keep my phone switched on.

But if he chooses England he will have to suffer the corrupt ‘big’ team preference that appears to be a pre-requisite of being England manager and has cost England so dear in competitions. Unless of course he moves on.

Adams is no fool and will know it will take a great deal more from him over a much longer period than now to be knocking on England’s door. Even harder when you come from non fashionable clubs. The wonderfully articulate Kane can rest easy for the moment. Grab the International opportunity now Che. Only ever one kick away from ending your career and the England call may well be a long time coming.

Adams for England?...nice thought, but Ché should make the best of the situation and plump for his Grannie's homeland. Although Scotland aren't on the same level as England, they are desperately short of strikers (example Mc Burnie who hasn't scored in over a dozen internationals), and if Ché gets goals for them he will become a big fish in the little Scottish pond...Er.. (sorry .."loch") ...alongside Stuart Armstrong.
Southgate has the England strike force "sewn up" to the satisfaction of the media with Kane, Rashford, Sterling and Calvert-Lewin and with everyone else relegated to a few late minutes off the bench.
Danny Ings' goal tally last season was an enormous achievement but it seemingly did him no favours when the greatest "honour" he got... was to get his name on the England squad list and then sit on the bench with Ward-Prowse.

This is a chance to make kick-start an International career and Ché shouldn't ignore it .

Agree with the 2 above. Southgate came in promising "form" players to get picked over the "traditional". That lasted about 48 hours! Look through the recently-failed side and pick the "form" players. Maybe 3? 4? OK, Henderson and Sterling "injured" admittedly.
Go for Scotland young Che, get out and enjoy the moments while you can. Those with England likely to be a long time coming.
