Southampton And Sheffield United Charged By FA For Failing To Control Their Players
Thursday, 11th Mar 2021 14:24

The usual accusations about control levelled at Saints players recently have all been about their failure to control the ball, but the FA have taken umbrage at an incident at Bramall Lane in or victory against the Blades.

Saints along with Sheffield United have been charged with failing to control their players after tempers flared late on in the Saints' 2-0 win at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

The incident came in the three minutes of injury time added at the end of the game when United's John Fleck fouled Che Adams, the ex-Sheffield United player who was on the scoresheet in Saints win.

Fleck was shown a yellow card for the challenge, checked by VAR, but Saints players surrounded referee Paul Tierney demanding more, with United's Oli McBurnie and Southampton's Jannik Vestergaard booked for their reactions.

For those watching on TV it was no more than handbags at dawn, plenty of pushing and posturing but little else, but it seems the FA want to look into it further.

An FA statement said:

"It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 90th minute and they have until Monday (15/3/21) to respond."

WALOFB

If anything, Fleck should be charged with starting a riot !! :-)

It was nothing - if they want to throw the book at someone, ask them to look at the melee in injury time during the Bournemouth v Watford game - where lots of players were far more involved - fighting, pushing and pulling and throwing punches !!

Haven't the FA got better things to do? Everyone's forgotten about this other than for the fact it should have been red. Why not charge Everton for failing to control Richarlison's screaming? Ridiculous.

I think the ref bottled it. The Blades are bottom of the league, losing 0-2 in added time and he thought a yellow would be punishment enough. Surely it's a red every day of the week.
We have all seen red given to much less aggressive attacks. Clumsy was not the word.
It was blatant to say the least. If anything the ref. should have been cautioned for his role.

The reason is that we have complained about referees this season - corrupt b*stards. The FA, PGMOL are so pathetic it makes me want to vomit!

Agreed. Nothing more than a bout of handbags. Crazy!

We get done for failing to control our players.

Perhaps the FA should charge the referee with failing to control a game of football. You know, the thing in his job description that he is supposed to do !!

I didn’t see the incident but I watched M.O.D didn’t think it was worth
Showing After Garth Crooks say it was a terrible foul straight red worse
He has seen if the the ref had taken action straight away maybe
There wouldn’t be any trouble so FA charge the referee!

It was NOTHING. The FA clearly don't have a grip what can happen even in everyday training sessions. R-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s.

I agree that this is probably the result of Saints complaining , and rightfully so , about a couple of refs., Mike "I'm the center of attention" bl**dy Dean, being, rightfully, one of them.
HE, above anyone, destroys football matches and causes players getting upset.
