Cooper and Scott target Liam Walsh after talks with Bristol City break down
Saturday, 15th May 2021 12:48 by David Cornish

Liam Walsh is well within the sights of Swansea City as Steve Cooper has already shown keen interest in the midfielder this week. Walsh was in talks with his club Bristol City but any chance of a new contract broke down last night. The swans have wasted no time in making it clear they want him at the Liberty.

Liam Walsh started his career at Everton but he moved on to Bristol City after loan spells at Yeovil and Birmingham. Described as a text book passer of the ball with both feet and a dynamic competitor in midfield Walsh could become the second real steal the swans have taken from Bristol City. Korey Smith is already a huge plus after a successful season for him and the club in the championship.

The key for this is we know is that Swansea City will offer Walsh a more lucrative contract than Bristol City have already. Coupled with the relative difference in the clubs, the robins hardly improved when Kasey Palmer rejoined them this January, bar one game. Then Walsh was suffering from reoccurring injuries. This most certainly has been the reason Walsh is not being pursued by Bristol City with a bigger deal. He will leave the club in two weeks.

The problem for Liam Walsh is at 23 years of age he has only played 62 competitive professional games and has had a pretty bad ligament injury. This saw him loaned to Coventry City in their victorious promotion season from league one last year to recover. He was named the clubs player of the season which saw his career receive just kick start it needed.

Swansea City have made their move and Walsh knows all about it, nothing will happen of course until the play offs are done and dusted, but his addition if secured, will do no harm at all to Swansea City next season regardless of their league status.
