Lemina Sends Thank You Message To Saints Fans But Club Haven't Even Acknowledged He Has Left
Sunday, 25th Jul 2021 18:24

OGC Nice and the players own twitter account announced that Mario Lemina had left Saints and joined the French club, but 24 hours after the announcements Saints have not even bothered to announce the move nor wish him well.

Usually when a player leaves the club, they post an announcement on their official website, which depending on how well the player has served the club can range from gushing to a short terse message that perhaps gives an indication that Saints have not been happy with the player .

But no matter the animosity that may be festering, Southampton FC usually wish the player departing well for the future.

However despite their website being updated today (Sunday) there is no mention that Lemina has departed, although they did find the time to wish Ex Saints player Jonathan Forte, hardly a club legend with just two First team League starts to his name, a Happy Birthday.

I would be surprised if failing to put up the transfer news was an oversight. of course it could be that they are waiting for the paperwork to be fully completed and registered before they count their chickens that they have got shot of him, but there is the suspicion that this is the parting shot to a player who has not exactly been employee of the month during his time at St Mary's.

A little snub just to show where they stand on him.

Lemina himself appears to have no shame, he posted a ready-made graphic of himself in action for Saints with the caption “2017-2021 THANK YOU I wish you all the best #WeMarchOn #Saints”

That will not wash with Saints supporters from a player who has spent the last two seasons out on loan and who has not played for the club since May 2019 preferring to go out on loan for the last two seasons.

Jonathan forte may not be a legend in the usual sense of the word but his 2 goals v mk Dons will be remembered forever by those who were there. He got us out of a hole that day and ensured we stayed on track for promotion. Happy birthday Jonathan - and thanks for vital part you played in our history.

Remember when Nigel Adkins signed Forte, he said he had "pace and power". Can't get them all right Nigel.

If I understand the transfer regulations correctly Lemina can't sign for another team until a transfer fee has been agreed between the clubs. Lemina and his agent needed SFC consent to negotiate with Nice and this might not have been forthcoming if another club had already agreed a higher fee but Lemina declined to move. Speculation, of course, and maybe we're just waiting for the money to appear in the bank account before making any announcement. All in all I'm just glad to see him go despite his talent and certainly have no interest in his future career.
