Southampton At Swansea City The Preview Saturday, 31st Jul 2021 11:30 Saints travel to South Wales to take on Swansea City in a pre season friendly, but one face will be missing from the line up and that is James Ward Prowse, find out the full squad details here. A year ago Saints went mad when they travelled to the Liberty Stadium and won 7-1, that was a freak result, although Ralph Hasenhuttl will be hoping that his side can replicate a good win over Cardiff City earlier this week, but at this stage of pre season the result is not the main aim of the game. Stuart Armstrong looks set to return after missing out on Tuesday, however one player missing will be James Ward Prowse who also sat out the win over Cardiff, after not missing a single game over the past two seasons, JWP has picked up a slight knock to the knee in training earlier this week and although the injury isn't serious, Saints are erring on the side of caution. The word from the camp though is that his absence is nothing to do with the bid from Aston Villa for his services, indeed Ward Prowse was present in the stands on Tuesday evening to watch his team mates beat the Bluebirds. So Ralph will pick from virtually a full squad other than Ward Prowse, Jannik Vestergaard won't play as he is not due back to training till Monday and Will Smallbone is still not yet ready after his knee injury that kept him out of the second half of last season. Calum Watts who will be hoping to force his way into the picture this season will also be out as he has been playing in the Olympics for Australia. It looks likely that Ralph will keep to the same pattern as he did at Cardiff, he will swap those who started for those who were on the bench and will give them around an hour before making changes. You would expect the likes of Alex McCarthy to get a game in goal and perhaps Che Adams in the starting line up. But elsewhere it may be a case of mix and match, that may mean another opportunity at left back for Djenepo and mix and match in the midfield.
