Saints have made a solid start to the season and have bolstered the squad, but It doesn't seem to have stirred up the emotions of a large number of the supporter base, with two days to go before the game there are plenty of tickets left on sale.

The return of football fans to the stadium seems to have elicited a mixed response around the country, some grounds have seen full houses whilst others have seen attendances drop drastically.

Southampton could well fall into the latter, the visit of Manchester United was far from a sell out and with many supporters giving up getting into the ground due to chaos at the turnstiles the actual number of supporters in the ground was barely 26,000 including 3,000 away fans.

The club don't appear to have published figures for the game against West Ham a fortnight ago, but those there estimated that too would have been around the 25,000 mark, at least 5,000 down on what would have been the norm in the previous seasons in the Premier League.

This poor attendance can't all be down to those worried about Covid 19, there has been a gradual disillusionment over the past 7 years that has seen a willingness to always search for and find the negatives in any situation in a part of the supporter base, although it seems that judging by the great support in the two home games so far, most of those missing seem to have been in that category.

Saints have had a solid start since the opening day defeat against Everton, and have not lost in any competition since, although in the League it has been a case of 4 draws and no wins.

That has to change and Wolves is a big game, they are a point below us in the table and this is a vital game for both club's as defeat for either of us would leave us looking over our shoulders.

So it is a game when we need a red hot atmosphere at St Mary's.

The support against both Manchester united and West Ham suggests that will be the case and it is not too late to get a ticket and support our football team.

The first two games suggest a change in buying patterns, with less season ticket holders, there has been a swing to more tickets being sold in the final two days before the game itself and that looks to be the case again for the Wolves game.

So if you are thinking of going then get your ticket asap to make sure of a great seat and hopefully the first Premier League win of the season.

It is time to look forward to the future with a degree of positivity and we can do that at the moment, we need all Saints fans to pull together and kick in the same direction as Ralph Hasenhuttl and his team.

ElijahK added 12:59 - Sep 24 I personally see this Wolves game as deciding how good/bad out start to the season has been, as points wise, for who we’ve faced I’d of taken 4/5 points before the season started for who we had (as we should win against Newcastle and maybe get a draw against Everton/West ham), but the fact we haven’t won a game isn’t too great, but is basically levelled out by the fact that we’ve only lost 1, and seeing that we’ve drawn against Man U and Man City, as well as an inform West Ham team, that’s no too bad of a start and has helped us keep a decent goal difference. As if we win on Sunday, then we’ll of had a greet start and really taken our points when we should have, if we draw it’ll be a bit of a hit and miss as like I said before we still haven’t won, but then again we’ve only lost once, but if we loose then our start hasn’t been too great with only 4 points from the first 6 with no wins (but I won’t be calling for Ralph’s head or anything if we were to loose on Sunday). But in reality we should win on Sunday as we’re doing better than Wolves and have a better squad this season, than them.

saintmark1976 added 13:21 - Sep 24 The evidence is there for all to see Nick. It’s become too expensive for many people and their families to attend. Proof is provided by glancing at the club’s ticketing website. Block 11 of the stadium is currently sold out, because that’s where the seats are the cheapest. Every other area excepting away supporters, has seats available. It may be too late to adjust the overall pricing structure without upsetting those of us who have purchased season tickets. However, there is nothing at all stopping the club from making a reclassification of upcoming games, say dropping A games to B etc etc, thus reducing the cost of attending going forward. Will the club go in this direction to increase overall match day revenue? I personally doubt it as they can’t even arrange to answer the telephone in the ticket office.

A1079 added 20:41 - Sep 24 Just a personal observation, but though it is a little disappointing to see empty seats I have enjoyed the games I have gone to this season and I have found those fans that have attended to be in good voice and supportive to the team. May be what we have got back to is the core support. I appreciate that empty rows is not a good look and presumably not great revenue wise though I don't think clubs see fans as their key source of income any more.

mattthelegend added 08:23 - Sep 25 Tickets too expensive, a lot of people don’t have that amount of disposable income and things don’t look like they are getting any better, financially. It’s an expensive day out for the footy. I went to watch Eastleigh the other night £20.00 to watch Dover!!!!!! How is that supposed to entice me back again, I know it’s not Saints, but just a general reflection of the greed in today’s game.
