Last Couple Of Hundred Tickets Left For Southampton V Manchester City.
Tuesday, 18th Jan 2022 09:55

A quick glance at the Saints official website ticket system shows that only two areas of the ground have any tickets available for the visit of the Premier league champions.

Saints V Manchester City is probably the game in which we are least likely to get anything out of at St Mary's this season, so it is strange that it looks like being one of the few games that will have completely sold out this season.

It seems that some of our fanbase would rather see the stars of Manchester City than see us take on opposition that we actually have a decent chance of beating.

Strange also that it is a game at 5.30pm on a Saturday evening and televised, usually the worst time spot to sell tickets for.

Many of the seats are single seats only, but the centre of the Kingsland and also the wings still have multiple seats together at time of writing 10am Tuesday morning.

It is likely that the last tickets will be sold today and the game declared a sell out, if you miss the boat, don't panic as once it is sold out they will open the ticket exchange where season ticket holders who cant make the game can sell on their tickets.

in my view Nick it's another nail in the coffin of your relentless support for a European Superleague, or whatever you want to call it. The game is not always about winning and, thankfully, not about drab afternoons watching the likes of Burnley churning out their version of the sport. Why wouldn't we want to say that we saw the greats of the game other than on a tv screen? As much as I have my indelible memories of Paine, Davies, Channon, Ball, Shilton, Keegan, LeTiss etc, etc, etc I also treasure watching the greats of Man Utd, Arsenal, and a few others, even when we were on the losing end. You think it's strange but to me it's no different to any other live experience in sport or music, in other words "I was there" and let's not forget we do actually beat the Uniteds and Cities. Personally, a result against City brings more of a glow than points against teams who I struggle to recognise most of the names on the team sheet.

In recent years we have struggled to beat City, in the last 5 seasons plus this season, we have beaten them just once in 12 games in both the league and cup, we have conceded 29 goals and scored just 8.

The gap is widening, even in our one win we were absolutely battered and scored with literally our only real attempt, they had 74% of the ball.

Personally I want to watch games of football that are competitive in a league that is competitive

We drew away to Man City in the league this season and beat them at St Mary's in the league in 2020. I'm looking forward to another competitive league game against them, the same as the majority of the capacity crowd will do.

When I read the article my reaction was exactly as Highfield commented. As a ST holder I watch every opposition and of course want Saints to win every game. But also witnessing some of the best players on the planet is also part of the experience. If our lads can be competitive against the leagues best then so much the better.

Got to say, im far more excited in the thought of watching Saints play Man City than some of the more dour unglamorous opponents.
We also got a well deserved draw against them away from home already.
