Hasenhuttl Confirms He Is Likely To Make Changes For West Ham Game
Tuesday, 1st Mar 2022 15:58

Ralph Hasenhuttl has been speaking in his press conference about his likely line up for the FA Cup game against the Hammers and has indicated that he is likely to change the side from the one that beat Norwich City at the weekend.

Ralph Hasenhuttl 's comments ahead of the tie against West Ham United won't be welcomed by Saints supporters keen to see the side progress to the quarter finals of the competition, however it should also be considered that the Austrian very rarely reveals his thoughts before a game entirely and likes to keep the opposition guessing.

Speaking in the press conference ahead of the game he had this to say.

"So far, the cup competitions have always been important for us as a team to give players chances, to show their importance for us as a club and this helps massively for keeping the atmosphere good in this team.

"When you have a bigger squad, you have some players who are not able to play all the time and they need something, a target to look at, and they have showed in the cup competitions so far that they have done a good job.

"They want to get a chance again to show up, and I don't know how much we may change from the last game, but there will be a few, definitely."

Speaking about getting the right balance between playing his strongest side and giving squad players game time he had this to say:

"Both things are important, we've had an intense time already and have an intense two weeks to come, so we have to balance the impact on players who have been a long time out with injuries."

So there you have it, Ralph is likely to make some changes, although some may be more tactical than change for change sake, as in eluded to in an earlier article today, he seemed to be referring to Stuart Armstrong in his last sentence and will not want to over stretch the Scotsman and risk further injury.

I’d say it all depends on who’s coming in and who’s getting left out. As West Ham are unlikely to play their strongest side as they only played on Sunday and wanna try and make the Champions league, or at least the Europa league, so we won’t be the only ones doing it.

But we do now have the squad depth to do so, and if he plays the likes of Willy (instead of Forster), Parraud (instead of Livermento or KWP), and even Redmond and Stephens (for the likes of Elynousie and Bednerak), as they’ve all shown recently that they can be decent, as Willy was great against Coventry, Parrauds been great for quite a few games, and Stephens against manny was pretty solid, and Redmonds actually got a pretty decent record in the FA Cup. So as long we’re swapping the poorer regular starters, for our best bench ones (and not playing Djenepo, Armstrong, Smallbone etc) then I’d be pretty happy with whatever squad he comes out with.

He'd better not! Let's hope he's bluffing. Tomorrow night we have our most important game of the season so far and we need our best XI for it. There isn't a single league game left this season that matters as much as this cup game.

We have a real chance of winning only the second major trophy in our history. We must not throw it away.

Very sorry to hear RH at his press conference. I'm with dirk doone 100% on this. RH rotated in the last round and, if Coventry had had any luck at all, we would have been out.
This is one of the few occasions in recent years when we have no relegation worries and a team in great form. These opportunities don't come around that often and need to be grasped. Everyone understands to need to give fringe players game time, but do it on Saturday rather than today.

Yes - I hope he is bluffing. If he isn't then what exactly is the point of the FA Cup??
