Saints Get Boost Ahead Of South Coast Derby With Brighton Star Suspended
Tuesday, 19th Apr 2022 08:20

With the battle for the top 10 hotting up, at the weekend Saints take on a rejuvenated Brighton at the Amex stadium,, but they have an early boost with the news that the Seagulls will be without a star man on Sunday.

The man in question is Yves Bissouma who picked up his 10th booking of the Premier League season and therefore will be suspended under the Premier League totting up system where players that have had 10 yellow cards after their team has played 32 games.

Bissouma is suspended for the Man City game on Wednesday and the Southampton match on Sunday at the Amex, as Saints and Brighton enter a crucial few days this coming week in their quest for a top 10 finish.

The Seagulls sit in that position after their last gasp win over Spurs enabled them to leapfrog Saints.

But the positions could change before the weekend. Brighton head to Lancashire on Wednesday to take on Manchester City and the next day Saints visit Burnley.

Unless Brighton can pull off what looks an impossible task and win at City, that would give Saints a big chance to start the weekend in 10th position, indeed it could be as high as 9th if Leicester fail to win at Everton.

So a big week for Saints ahead and they get a boost ahead of it with the news that Brighton will be without one of their best players.

All depends on the attitude of our players Nick as to whether they decide the season is done and dusted and cannot be bothered or whether they recognise that position means more money for the coffers and the club that could help pay a salary etc and have a desire to finish as high as possible.

Burnley will be a difficult game - it always is and traditionally we have not done well there.

Hopefully the three points from Arsenal will inspire the players to get results at Burnley and Brighton. Surely it's better to wake up relishing a decent performance rather than suffering the sort of mental and physical hangover prompted by a Chelsea humiliation?
Now that any relegation concerns are over Ralph can now ask for 100% effort, with the players knowing that they can put themselves in the shop window, if their ambitions lie elsewhere, or remove themselves from the surplus to requirements list being prepared for the transfer window.
Brighton missing Bissouma is a bonus but Graham Potter is, as we know, tactically very astute so we certainly can't afford to switch off. As for Burnley, that's a really strange situation because they clearly didn't have a new manager sorted when Dyche left and the realisation must have registered with the players that the owner has hung them out to dry.

Please, it's not a derby. It's just another game. Otherwise where does it stop. Play Reading and it's the M3 A33 derby! Reading is closer than Brighton btw!
