Southampton Eyeing Bargain Buy Goalkeeper
Thursday, 12th May 2022 14:23

Saints are said to be eyeing a bargain buy International goalkeeper in the summer according to Italian media sources, find out who they are being linked with and the lowdown on the player himself here.

The man in question is Polish international Bartlomiej Dragowski. who is currently at Fiorentina who due to injury dropped down the pecking order at the Serie A club.

After breaking into the first team as first choice back in 2019/20 season he spent two seasons as first choice keeper at the club, he started this season as again the number 1, but after getting suspended for a red card and then picking up a hamstring injury that kept him out for 2 months when he returned after the winter break he found himself on the bench.

Now he is about to enter the final year of his contract and Fiorentina have accepted that they are going to have to sell him now rather than risk losing him as a free agent in the summer of 2023.

Dragowski who stands at 6ft 3 inches will turn 25 in August and has that right combination for a keeper of youth and experience having played 81 Serie A games for Fiorentina, another 14 on loan at Empoli, as well as 64 times for Jagiellonia Białystok who play in the top league in Poland.

He has been capped just the once for Poland, but is seen as one for the future, Fiorentina don't want to lose him, but they know that it will be hard to stand in his way and that they will lose him for next to nothing in a years time.

The fee being quoted is around the £10 million mark which could turn out to be a bargain for a keeper who has been number 1 for his club and only lost his place through injury and was unable to regain it due to the good form of his rival between the sticks.

If, as rumours indicate, FF does leave we'll have Alex McCarthy as No1!!! Shame considering we've seen what a proper goal-keeper can do.
Besides having a great name, Bartlomiej Dragowski looks more like a memebr of ZZTop!
Great Name. Great Beard. Great Price. Hopefully a great keeper!!

someone once said - "you have to be a bit crazy to be a goalkeeper " and clearly some goalies stand out for their own breed of individualism. Over the decades Saints had a few custodians who were outstanding in different ways, and many were great characters.

In Saints promotion year (1965-66) we had Scotsman Campbell Forsyth who liked to command his own territory and used a few choice Scottish-isms in driving his defenders up field and out of " his penalty area." Another Scot, Eric Martin was very acrobatic and stood out at the back with his curly locked hair style. Ian Turner's heroics in the 76 Cup Final defy explanation as he seldom knew just how he made those incredible saves, and who could forget Ivan Katalinic's incredible moustache in the early 80's . Peter Shilton was a law unto himself and picked up 50+ England caps during his time with Saints. Veteran keepers like Beasant and Burridge left their mark - in different ways - whilst few keepers were as energetic as the Finn Antti Niemi, who often threw himself around in the line of duty and made a great triple save on one occasion.
No-one could describe Kelvin Davis as outrageous, but he certainly left his mark and still remains the keeper with most games in a Saints shirt.

However, I do agree with DellBoyWally. A great name and a great beard - Can't wait !

I think you need to recheck your stats.
Shilts managed 49 England caps whilst at Saints. The reason I know this is because my cousin had a bet about this with a Forest fan. My cousin went for 50 or more caps and lost his bet by 1 cap !! :-)

Being a long distance follower of Fiorentina i can say that Dragowski is a very good GK, although having hardly played this season i'd be unsure what that may have done to him.
