Saints Fans Will Miss Richarlison's Debut For Spurs
Tuesday, 5th Jul 2022 14:55

Southampton fans travelling to North London for the seasons opening fixture agaonst Tottenham Hotspur will be devastated to hear that they will miss the debut of Spurs new signing Richarlison who will be suspended.

Saints going to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has already been written into Spurs folklore in the minds of some, this was going to be the day that Spurs finally started to lay down their credentials to truly be a side that could win the Premier League and leading the line would be their new signing from Everton, Richarlison.

But sadly half of this story is not going to be written as Richarlison has received a one match ban after throwing a flare back into the crowd during his former club Everton's 1-0 win over Chelsea back in May.

It was a breach of Rule E3, which covers improper conduct. Pyrotechnics are banned from football stadiums in England and the Brazilian has pleaded guilty to the offence.

In some ways you have to feel sorry for Richarlison, whilst I am no lover of his as a player or as a person, I do think it is a little unjust that a player has to put up with all kinds of stick, but if he retaliates then he is hit by the authorities.

But on the opposite side of things it could be countered that if he had been an Everton supporter who had picked up a flare that was thrown and then threw it into another part of the crowd, then that fan would probably now have a criminal record, a hefty fine and be banned from attending football matches for 3-4 years.

So from that respect Richarlison has got off very lightly compared to the average supporter.

But the good news for Saints fans is that he will not be playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Southampton, so that will be one less thing to worry about on the day.

Glad we wont have to watch that diving cheat. Should go down a storm at Tottenham though.

Dirty little cheating bastid. Glad he's missing. Now it'll be left to Son to do the diving on the opening day. I'm putting a £20 quid bet on the first penalty of the new PL season going to Spurs.

And if Son doesn't get the penalty then Kane will be chasing the referee around the pitch for the next 10 minutes!!
I actually like Son. Have in my side over Kane any day!

As regards Richarlison, he is the cheating kind that'll fit well at Spuds. Whilst Nick feels sorry for him, I think a one game ban is dreadful. Should have been at least 5 games. Clearing flares off the pitch is nothing to do with him. And to throw it into the crowd is utterly brainless and extremely dangerous and the punishment should have matched the crime. But he is a Spuds player now so that doesn't apply!!

Having Richarlison banned for the first game is some sort of recompense, (as if the presence of Kane and Son isn't enough), but having that cheat in the side only adds insult to injury.
