Reports Say Southampton Player Will Be In World Cup Squad
Tuesday, 1st Nov 2022 13:07

According to latest reports Saints could see a surprise call up for a member of their squad for the upcoming World Cup, but which one of them will it be ? Read on for the details.

According to reports on the Continent Romeo Lavia stands a very good chance of making the Belgium squad for the upcoming World Cup in Quatar, despite being still only 18 years old, only being capped once at U21 level and with only 7 senior games at a competitive level.

The man in question is Philippe Albert who as well as playing for Belgium himself also had a spell in England with Newcastle and then Fulham on loan.

Since then he has worked as a pundit on Belgium TV and also owns a fruit & veg business in his home country.

Now presuambly he didn't pick up this information from someone who popped in for a kilo of potatoes and whispered in his ear some insider information, but this is what Albert has had to say on Belgium manager Roberto Martinez's plans for his squad.

“Last week, someone whispered in my ear that Roméo Lavia would be among the 26,” Voetbal Nieuws report him saying.

“Nicolas Raskin and Bryan Heynen could also be an option, but Lavia stands a good chance.”

So there you have it, who whispered in his ear is unclear and whether he had to grease his palm with a few extra potatoes thrown in or even some apples, but there could be a shock in store. (The store in question not being Albert's fruit & veg shop)
