Help Abby's Heroes Make A Big Difference To Children In Southampton Wednesday, 29th Nov 2023 14:30 Here at TUI we like to try and help local charities raise funds for their good work and now we want to ask all our readers to consider making a donation to Abby's Heroes in their Big Give Xmas Challenge So who are Abby's Heroes you may ask, well of course you can find out more by clicking on abbysheroes.org but for those who aren't ready to do that yet, let us give you a brief resume. Abby's Heroes Mission Statement The aim of the charity is to help and support children and their families who come under the care of the Piam Brown and the Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) wards in Southampton General Hospital. The catchment for these wards covers the south of England as it is a centre of excellence for children’s oncology. We aim to offer financial and practical help and importantly, the opportunity to make lasting memories for the children, young adults and their families. As a family that has passed through this ward, we are acutely aware of what a traumatic and frightening journey it can be for both the child and their families. The child’s life is completely taken over by the diagnosis of childhood cancer and their family's worlds are thrown into utter chaos and panic as they watch their child go through the rigours of treatment. The realty of the future these families face includes months or years of treatment, families are often separated for long periods, as parents need to stay with the child, but also may have siblings that need looking after as well. Jobs are put on hold and inevitably financial implications start to hit home, this puts a massive strain on families as normal life ceases to exist.
The Big Give Xmas 2023 Help Abby's Heroes by donating a few spare pennies to the Abby's Heroes Big Give Christmas Challenge Campaign this year you could be the difference between a family having a Christmas dinner and not. Every day 12 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. It has a massive financial impact as many parents need to give up work to care for their child. This, on top of already stretched household finances, means that many families may struggle with the additional costs at Christmas time. They want to ease the financial pressures families face, especially at Christmas time and send a clear message that they are not alone. We offer much needed help through one of our many support packages and want to provide supermarket gift cards to help with the additional costs at Christmas time. So Abby's Heroes have launched their 7 day Xmas Challenge, between November 28th 2023 & Midday on Tuesday December 5th all donations made using this Donate Here link. For all donations made through this link Abby's Heroes will have the donation matched during this 7 day period by their sponsors, that means that for every £50 donated it will be matched and it will pay for a £100 Tesco Voucher that makes sure that a poorly child and their family can have as happy a Xmas they can hope for.
