Saints Said To Have Opened Talks With Premier League Player
Tuesday, 23rd Jan 2024 11:26

We are heading into the last week of the transfer window and negotiations as well as the rumour mill start to get more serious and the latest reports are saying that Saints have made an approach for a winger.

This is not a new story in that the man in question is Manuel Benson of Burnley, we were said to be in pole position a week or so ago only for talks to break down for some reason.

Leeds were quick to jump in and make a bid and we were out of the picture, however there has been another twist and now footballleagueworld.co.uk and indeed Sky Sports Mark McAdam are saying that it is Southampton who have made a fresh approach and are now in talks.

This seems to have a turn or two left to come though, it seems Burnley are not keen to do business with us due to failing to land Nathan Tella on the cheap, however it is also claimed that Southampton is the preferred destination of Manuel Benson himself.

So it seems that Saints are being encouraged potentially by the players agent to keep pushing for the deal, whereas Burnley are content to try and force a bidding war between the two clubs to try and get the best deal financially and if that is Saints then all the animosity will be forgotten after the soothing reconciliation that money can often achieve between two football clubs.

From a Leeds perspective it seems that they have to sell Gnonto before they can buy, if he is not sold they have a plethora of wide options and there is rumour that he is about to sign a new contract, which would definitely see Leeds out of the running and therefore mean that Burnley might only have one option left willing to pay what they are looking for to secure Benson on loan for the rest of the season.
