Juventus Confirm Carlos Alcaraz Signing
Wednesday, 31st Jan 2024 20:47

Italian Giants Juventus have officially confirmed that they have signed Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz on loan for the remainder of the season, but Saints don't see this as the end of the road for the player at St Mary's

In a short statement Juventus have confirmed that Saints Charly Alcatraz will be joining them on loan till the 30th June 2024.

In a statement on their website they said.

"A versatile midfielder, Carlos arrives as a reinforcement in the middle of the park, with the Club able to count on a player capable of making himself useful in different areas of the pitch, but with strong offensive qualities. The 21-year-old Argentine grew up in Racing in his native Argentina, a team in which he featured both centrally and out wide in midfield, the latter position becoming his favoured role over the years.

"The son of a footballer, Carlos made his debut in the Argentine league in 2020, before joining Southampton in England last season, playing 18 games in the Premier League and contributing four goals and two assists.

"This season, he made 26 appearances for the Saints, 23 of which came in the Championship, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

"Now an exciting new adventure in Turin awaits.

"Welcome, Carlos!

However it appears that there is not an option to buy in the deal, Saints Director of football Jason Wilcox had this to say.

“Allowing Charly to leave on loan was a decision that we have been deliberating on for some time, but Russell, Phil and our ownership group are all in agreement that this is the right move for Charly at this time.

“Considering the midfield options we have available to us right now, and Charly’s lack of game time, we wanted to allow him this chance to gain some valuable experience in one of the top leagues in Europe.

“Juventus are a huge club and we are convinced that this move will allow Charly the opportunity to flourish and then come back and be a success at Southampton.”

Bit of a surprise and a shame as he seemed settled after a wobble earlier in the season. Maybe Martin just doesn't fancy him for what ever reason. Either way you don't loan out players you value when chasing promotion.

Who knows what goes on behind the clubs closed doors

If we dont go up this season wait for the fall out over this transfer , too many ifs and buts for it to be a success . i expect him to come in the summer not interested in saints as hes now been at a big club , juve wont buy him and he will end up going out on loan again as he will refuse to play .
