Romain Perraud Set To Leave Southampton In Permanent Deal
Tuesday, 18th Jun 2024 15:01

After spending most of last season out on loan there are some Saints fans who would like to see Romain Perraud back in the squad for the coming season, however those hopes look set to be dashed.

According to insidefutpol.com are reporting that after spending 2023/24 on loan at Nice, Romain Perraud, the French club are not going to trigger the option to buy clause in Perraud's loan deal.

But there is interest in the Frenchman, Real Betis are said to be close to agreeing a deal with Southampton, who with only one year left on Perraud's contract are happy to let him leave,

It has been suggested that the Spanish outfit are set to pay a transfer fee of a bit more than £3 million for the Frenchman.

If everything goes as expected, Perraud will join Manuel Pellegrini’s side in their pre-season training camp in July.

Some Saints supporters will be disappointed at this news, however Saints need to strengthen in the left back spot and to be blunt need to upgrade on Perraud now they are back in the Premier League.

With the exception of Charlie Alcaraz (fingers crossed) I would be surprised to seeing any of this year's loan players back in a Saints shirt.

Important to point out that Perraud is better than Manning. So if Perraud is deemed not good enough then we need a proper replacement.

Having signed Manning - even for nothing - I think RM feels compelled to support him, although clearly someone who is "not good enough" for the Championship will find life even harder at the highest level, and we have no obvious replacement at present. I liked Perraud and although he was thrown into the Prem.at a time when the whole team was struggling, I thought he DAJFU but like many FB's looked good going forward, but struggled for pace when expected to do his job as a defender.

In reading reports that a deal has already been agreed, we have certainly seen the last of him - for which I am somewhat saddened.
