Kyle Walker-Peters Named On Standby List For England Squad Monday, 2nd Sep 2024 14:10 Lee Carsley had overlooked Kyle Walker-Peters for his first squad as temporary England manager, but is seems he hasn't forgotten him, he has named him on his stand by list, should anyone drop out through injury. The Daily Echo has picked up on the news that Kyle Walker-Peters has been put on stand by for England's upcoming fixtures. They say that should someone drop out in his position, that would presumably be on either side of the pitch as a full back, then KWP would be called into the squad. Saints boss Russell Martin said: "He's on the standby list so obviously he has a good chance at some point if he carries on playing the way he's playing. "He's a really flexible player and I think having watched Lee's under-21s team, he's a player that would really suit the way that if he takes that into the first team. "I'm sure he will so he'll really suit the way that England play and Kyle needs to just keep doing what he's doing. He's been great for us. "I think he's started the season really, really well in terms of performance, especially after a pre-season when he didn't play too much and all the noise around him. "I think he's dealt brilliantly with that and he has to keep doing what he's doing and hopefully we'll have him and others getting international recognition this season." The Echo go on to say that Carsley name checked KWP without any prompting saying: "Trent Alexander-Arnold and a lot of modern-day full-backs have got attributes that almost turn them into midfielders. "As has Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker-Peters. I watched Kyle the other day. They are all very comfortable in possession, playing forwards and receiving the ball." That is great to hear for KWP and hopefully it may help him make a decision to sign a new contract, his two caps for England came in March 2022, but gareth Southgate had overlooked him after, preferring to pick players from bigger clubs or the flavour of the month, rather than those who were actually playing. Now perhaps things have changed and KWP can see that playing for Southampton will keep him in the eye of an England manager more than warming a bench as a squad player Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
