Stuart Armstrong Set For Move To New Club
Tuesday, 3rd Sep 2024 12:58

Many Southampton supporters were disappointed that Stuart Armstrong chose to leave St Mary's back in the summer, the club had offered him a new deal, but the player himself did not feel that it was good enough or perhaps he wanted a new challenge, it seems now he is likely to get it.

Stuart Armstrong had been a key player and a fan favourite during his six seasons at Saints after joining from Celtic in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £7 million, Southampton clearly got value for money in this deal.

Initially he struggled and his first season was not a resounding success, he only scored 3 goals in the League, bizarrely in consecutive games in December 2018 firstly away to Fulham and then at home to Manchester United.

His second season saw him start to flourish and he was a key player for the rest of his career, although the last two seasons of his time at St Mary's was blighted by niggly injuries and he struggled to play full games at times.

You felt that this influenced Saints decision when it came to the size of a new contract and it should also been noted that he did also lack consistency.

During the summer Armstrong has been linked with several clubs and has also been training with Brentford, but it seems that they see this as no more than doing him a favour and have no intention of offering him a deal, even though it is a free transfer.

But now there could be an offer in the pipeline according to southamptonfcnews they say that he is being offered a deal with Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS as one of their designated foreign players.

The question is though whether Stuart Armstrong would see this as a better offer than the one made to him by Southampton, both in terms of playing games of football and also the financial side of things.

One thing is for certain though, all Saints supporters will wish him the best of luck wherever he goes.

NB. The above statement is dependent on him not signing for Portsmouth.

Stuey seemed to struggle to play two games in a row in the Championship, so would have been an expensive (wages) part timer in the PL.
Still probably cheaper per game than the ghost from Sunderland!
Good luck to him, positive all the time and with the ability to enable that positivity, sadly missing at present!
