Sky Sports Reports Ivan Juric Sacked
Monday, 7th Apr 2025 12:04

Southampton FC have not made an official announcement just yet, but Sky Sports are reporting that Ivan Juric has left the club after relegation was mathematically confirmed after the defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

Sky Sports have had this to say about Juric's departure.

"Ivan Juric has left Southampton after the club's Premier League's relegation was confirmed, Sky Sports News understands.

"The Saints became the earliest team ever to be relegated from England's top flight, with their 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur seeing their demotion confirmed with seven games to go."

They also go on say that they understand Simon Rusk will take the team until the end of the season. and that Adam Lallana will also be involved in the new setup.

The departure of Juric will please Southampton supporters and the only real question is why this was not done sooner.

Hopefully this will give the club back some impetus and that we can now build for the coming season, the fact that Adam Lallana is now being utilised perhaps explains his absence from the squad of late, clearly he did not see eye to eye with Juric.

Good he's gone but now the work starts, first find a win from somewhere to lift a bit of confidence. Then start to plan for next year, perhaps introduce a couple of the promising youngsters into the first team squad to gain experience, particularly a striker. And as Nick mentioned, in the Spurs verdict, bring some of the exiled players back.
We need to sort out this very large but mediocre squad ASAP!

Sensible decision to part ways, not sure what Juric could offer now. I suspect it will be Rusk as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

I agree it's time to seriously assess what we have for next season. Really need experience and bite on the pitch for next year.

The worrying thing with SR is, they had this man as their first choice after Ralph was sacked. They then settled on the Welsh wizard. SR have got every major decision wrong and I hope and pray some joined up thinking prevails. If not, god help us. What an absolute joke their tenure has been.

I suspect the timing was a financial decision. SR probably would have had to pay compo if they had sacked him prior to relegation being confirmed.

Not a surprising decision, (thankfully) taken sooner rather than later, now onto the hunt for his replacement with (perhaps) Simon Rusk taking the reins until a new face appears.

It was not an easy task finding a half-decent manager to replace Russel Martin, a week before Christmas and with the team already firmly anchored at the bottom.
I do have some sympathy for Juric, as he inherited an oversized squad of sub-standard players, previously recruited by 3 other managers, and who had been indoctrinated into Russball for 60-odd games. Juric did try to bring in some players who had been blatantly ignored by RM, and who had scarcely garnered that many minutes in the Prem. between them. He maybe secretly pleased for the early departure as his record with Saints won't look terribly good on his CV when he applies for... the next vacancy.

In the remaining fixtures (I hope) to see a few tactical changes and with a few of the promising U21 lads getting game time, and a chance to prove themselves at this level before we step down to the Championship. We may see some new talents appearing,
as both the U18/ U21's have been performing very well since the New Year.

I'm fairly sure we will see a mass slaughter of the squad, after the arrival of a new manager who has ideas for a quick turnaround in form, and not one satisfied to see us "treading water" for a few seasons before generating an attempt to return to the Prem.

If SR appointed Pep with Klopp as his assistant, they would still find a way to mess it up.
