Rangers Have Surprising Southampton Striker Target In Their Sights
Friday, 30th Jan 2026 13:32

According to the latest reports from North Of The Border, Rangers manager Danny Rohl is about to raid his old club Southampton and it is not for the player that you might think.

Most would read the above headline and assume that if would be Adam Armstrong or perhaps even Ross Stewart who the Glasgow giants are after, but they would be wrong.

The man in question is in fact Cameron Archer as givemesport.com have reported.

Archer has been marginalised in most of his time at St Mary's, but does have a knack of scoring the odd goal or two as he showed by his equaliser at Birmingham City a month ago.

However that never seems to lead to a run in the side for the ex Aston Villa striker.

Now it seems he could be heading to Ibrox as they look to overhaul Hearts and win the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers are said to be interested in both Archer and also Leeds United's Joel Piroe, I suspect some Saints supporters would be quite happy to see Archer head to Ibrox with Piroe heading to St Mary's

They can have Archer if they take Aribo as well!

Will this be a loan or a sale?
I thought he was going to be really useful but somehow he has never clicked consistantly

I think Cameron can still do a job for us. Aribo is the one we need to sell to free up some payroll.

Archer (?) ... I suppose there's a goal-scoring striker in there somewhere, but he's rarely had enough game time for the rest of the team to realise that he's with them on the pitch.
Instead of seeing him as a liability (which financially speaking) he maybe, it would be nice to think that he can get regular games in a club who can appreciate and use his talents.

A professional footballer is like a man on a death sentence, never knowing when his "last day" may come. It might be that career-ending injury) but for some, whilst others play on into their 30's - and beyond (I noted that Billy Sharp (soon to be 40) and the player who actually most helped Saints get promotion in 2012 ) can still get minutes with the Blades.

..but back to Cameron Archer. He deserves a chance of a fresh start, having lived through a succession of managers who scarcely noted his presence and if (like Dom Ballard) he starts
scoring goals again, it will be a condemnation of someone - other than he, himself.

underweststand, I’m a little confused. Billy Sharp hasn’t knocked any in for the Blades since 2023
