Paul Lambert has confirmed that Hamilton Academical striker Richard Offiong will not be following Joel Thomas to United Way.

The U's had a bid for both Offiong at Thomas accepted by Hamilton last week, and Frenchman Thomas completed his transfer yesterday, but Offiong has turned down a move.

Speaking to the press after last nights game against Aston Villa, Lambert confirmed: "I'm delighted to sign Joel. I have seen him play for Hamilton, and he's played in front of crowds of 50,000. He's young and hungry to do well. He didn't even know any of the lads' names before this game.

"But Richard Offiong will not be coming. His agent has spiked that one, telling him not to come.

"Our bid for him was accepted, and I was told that he was in the vicinity, but two minutes later and he had turned back!"
