Time To Evoke The Spirit Of The 2024 Promotion Push At St Mary's
Sunday, 15th Mar 2026 09:18

After the win at Coventry City Saints supporters are starting to believe that the team can make the play offs, but unfortunately that is not turning into ticket sales for this week's home games against Norwich City & Oxford United.

Southampton supporters have been magnificent for most of this season, even when the team was doing badly under Will Still, they were turning up in big numbers home and away and providing great backing.

We are now in a position where promotion is in our own hands and we are going into a crucial week where Wrexham travel to Watford on Tuesday and then Sheffield United on Saturday, two solid mid table teams.

Whereas we have two home games, the first against Norwich on Wednesday and Oxford on Saturday, both winnable games and if things go well, we could get into the play off spots ahead of the International break.

Indeed we could leapfrog Wrexham on Wednesday evening if they were to lose at Watford.

That would be a great morale booster for us and a big psychological set back for Wrexham.

However although the regular Saints supporters will all be there and providing great backing, as of yet, those who are not week in week out regulars are yet to respond by getting behind Tonda Eckert & his team this week.

As of today there are still over 3,000 tickets left for the visit of Norwich to St Mary's, given that there are likely to be around 2,000 seats empty in the away section, this will see a St Mary's with only around 26,000 in attendance.

For the Oxford game it is a little better, around 1,600 tickets are yet to be bought and with it being a Saturday and Oxford set to sell their full allocation as they look to escape from relegation, this will top the 30,000 mark.

This is not to condemn those who are choosing not to attend at the moment, we all choose how we want to support the team, but sometimes we have to have a rallying call and get everyone behind the team, as happened when we played at home to West Brom in the play off semi final at St Mary's two year ago when the plea for the team bus to be welcomed to St Mary's ahead of the game was a spectacular success.

So a big week coming up for Southampton and one that by Saturday evening we could be in the play off spot and firmly pushing our promotion credentials to the fore.

Wednesday tickets may move a bit more when fans realise that this game is NOT on Sky+ because it was originally planned for a Saturday 3pm slot
TV is a genuine option for those who are strapped for cash or have a hard day's graft to do first It doesn't make them any less valuable though
