What tummy trouble? Becks at the Double!
What tummy trouble? Becks at the Double!

Jermaine Beckford bounced back from his stomach-bug to leave Swindon Town feeling a little bit sick on Saturday.

Jermaine Beckford continued his remarkable season with a double to fire Leeds up to fourth in the table.

Becks who had spent the week laid low by a bug that had swept the training ground, showed he had fully recovered with goals either side of half-time.

It proved to be justice as Leeds had the better of the play, the superior of chances and Swindon just seemed content to foul their way through ninety minutes of football.

Paul Sturrock, who may have over-indulged on the pre-match hysteria surrounding his native Scotland claimed that Swindon could be as big as Leeds, pointing out that the Wiltshire men were in the Premiership - like Leeds were 13 years ago.

However Leeds lost their membership of football's elite TEN years after Swindon became a long, forgotten memory.

It might be more realistic for Swindon to emulate the "dirty" Leeds tag so often bandied at the whites' - as SEVEN of their superstars were booked!

Leeds opened the scoring on 31 minutes from the spot. A David Prutton cross was handled by Hasnee Aljofree the Swindon skipper and Beckford stepped up for goal number 9 of the season.

Leeds could and should have underlined their superiority before the interval. Kandol had two headers well saved by Brezovan and the Swindon keeper was also on hand to deny rising star Jonny Howson.

However, Leeds allowed the visitors to level after just 2 minutes following the re-start, Cox crossed and Lee Peacock converted from close range.

Fortunately the goal stung Leeds into a quick response and they went ahead again on 56 minutes. Howson played to Kandol who unselfishly allowed Beckford to reach double-figures for the season.

At last we saw a glimpse of Radostin Kishishev, who finally made his bow nearly three weeks after signing on-loan from Leicester. The Bulgarian international was offered a cameo role on 61 minutes, replacing Seb Carole.

Leeds suffered a scare in the 81st minute when Cox bundled home what everyone thought was an equaliser, except the referee's assistant who ruled out the goal for offside.

Leeds though did enough to hang-on and reach their highest position in League One this season.
