QPR v Doncaster Betting Preview
QPR v Doncaster Betting Preview
Friday, 24th Sep 2010 22:22 by Brian Power and Andy Hillman

Both pundits made profits last week backing QPR and horses so if you fancy following their tips this weekend, read on.

Brian won £127.50 on a horse last weekend bringing in a profit of £85, Andy brought in £47.50 for backing QPR and Jamie Mackie at Leicester and was one AC Milan result away from a big accumulator win so a £32.50 profit for him. That leaves the running totals at Andy £9.50 and Brian still slightly down £13 overall.

A nice 16/1 winner on the horses last week put a smile on my face that was only matched when I got a text to say Jamie and his magic boots had put us two up in the East Midlands. The bandwagon gives us two home games this week and both at the start of the season would have looked good for wins but it may be different despite our great start to the season. Doncaster come to HQ in seventh place and can cause problems for most teams in this division when they are on form. On Tuesday the friendly faces from South London head over the Thames and despite a couple of home defeats are also capable of getting a result and in Steve Morrison have a player I rate.

I think a win against Doncaster and a draw against the Wall will be a good return and I will have a £7.50 each on a 3-1 win and 1-1 draw. Again I will say shop around as the 3-1 against Doncaster is priced at 10/1 with Ladbrokes but 14/1 at William Hill.

Our good price winner from last week Redford runs again at Ascot in the 3.40 and is priced at 6/1. He will run a decent race but I am going to desert him and go for a 33/1 shot. Advanced won this race last year and Kevin Ryan will have the horse fit and ready and is worth an each way punt.

The big game this weekend is Chelsea ’s visit to Man City . The visitors have despatched all comers so far in the league but this is their first big test against the big spenders. I think a draw will suit both sides and will back the 2-2 draw.

The Singapore Grand Prix takes place this weekend and it is tight at the top of the drivers championship. Rumour has it George Michael was testing for a F1 team when he crashed into Snappy Snaps and his defence was he was only following team orders. However the tip for this weekend is the Ferrari number 2 Felipe Massa at 25/1 with Boylesports back him each way (1st 5 places) and the pay out is 5/1. OK team orders may dictate that he lets his colleague Alonso get past but this is F1 so who knows what will happen they start driving. The Ryder cup takes place at the Celtic Manor next week and although I am not a massive Golf fan I do have a dislike for Colin Montgomery – He is one of those people that just get up my nose. I am not backing anything but anyone attending the event if you do happen to run over him in your golf cart then let me know and I will buy you a beer. Now if only he had been in a North London branch of Snappy Snaps.

Finally back to winning ways after a disastrous couple of weeks – who would have thought that backing QPR to win would actually be profitable? If the papers are to be believed, QPR have already won the league. Which is nice – all we need to do is convince the other 23 league teams that there is no point of playing the games. Assuming we do win the league however, quite a few of us will make a bit of money on backing QPR to win – me included:

At the start of the season, I stuck £20 on Betfair for QPR to win the league, at odds of 13.5, for a profit of £250 if QPR actually win this thing. The odds have now come in to 2.96. As Betfair is an exchange, and you can bet against something happening, I could, if I wanted, trade out for a guaranteed profit of £67.07, by now backing QPR to NOT win the Championship, as the odds have changed so much. Think I’m going to keep hold of this bet for a little while longer though, seeing as we are officially invincible and will win every game. (Incidentally, in my other before the season bet, Crawley to win the Conference, the odds have come in from 6.8 to 4.4, meaning that I could trade out for a whopping £8.93 there as well if I so wished! Interestingly, If you had stuck a tenner on Mackie for top scorer before the season started, he was available at 100/1. His odds have come in so drastically (now 5/1 favourite) that you could walk away now with a guaranteed £167.00. Although Mackie is on course for 53 goals this season, so why would you do a thing like that!?

So this week, and it’s Doncaster’s chance to take on the QPR Juggernaut. After being quite pricy (and therefore profitable!) in our away wins against Ipswich and Leicester, we’re now back to being odds on at home, and the straight win against Doncaster is available at 8/11, which isn’t the best value. So I’m going to go for a QPR win-to-nil, available at 15/8 on Bet365. QPR to win 2-0 or 3-0 is available at 31/4 (?!) and 14/1 respectively at Unibet, so I’ll stick a fiver on both of those results as well. The bookies have finally cottoned onto Jamie Mackie, and he is now little better than evens to score at anytime, but is still 5/1 first goal scorer with Bet365, so another fiver there.

Finally, weekend accumulator time, and it’s tough this week – there are very few games that I can easily call the result on, that don’t have ridiculous odds – I can’t call Man City v Chelsea, and who knows which Liverpool will turn up against Sunderland. So, and fearful of the fact that almost every one of my last half dozen accumulators has failed due to some freak result (Wednesday, everything came in, including ‘NOT Liverpool’ against Northampton, except Chelsea, who conceded 4 at home for the first time in about 50 years) I’ve gone for a low paying limp-wristed affair of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Olympiakos and Panathanaikos to all win, and Birmingham and Charlton to NOT lose. £10 there @ 7/2 on Betfair.

For the weekend:

QPR to win to nil - £10 @ 15/8 (Bet365)

QPR to win 2-0 - £5 @ 31/4 (Unibet)

QPR to win 3-0 - £5 @ 14/1 (Unibet)

Mackie first goal scorer - £5 @ 5/1 (Bet 365)

Sixfold accumulator – Arsenal, Real Madrid, Olympiakos, Panathanaikos, NOT Wigan, NOT Dagenham £10 @ 7/2 – (Betfair)
