Shrews have bid accepted for Grant Holt

As the Observer goes to town on Dale making a bid to bring Grant Holt back to Spotland, it's been announced that Holt is in talks with Shrewsbury Town after the Shropshire side had a bid for the frontman accepted by Notts Forest.

The news broke on Friday morning with the story appearing in the local Nottingham newspapers. They reported that Shrewsbury Town had had an undisclosed fee accepted by Notts Forest for Holt's services.

The story went further and claimed that Dale also had a bid for Holt accepted by Forest, but that Holt had agreed terms with Salop and he would be unveiled at their new ground today.

News of the Shrewsbury bid has been unfortunate for the Rochdale Observer who have made big headlines this weekend about the Dale directors giving the go ahead for a move to bring back Holt after weeks of a Rochdale return for the former Halifax striker.

Of course, at time of writing, all that is known is that both Shrewsbury and Forest have announced that a deal between the clubs has been agreed, and that talks are to take place between Grant Holt and Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson, so its perhaps not as far advanced as was claimed by the Nottingham media.

But the indications seems to suggest that Simpson's Shrews are well in the driving seat on this one. We'll bring you more on this when it's available.
