The scientist seem to be saying that we will avoid a third wave of the pandemic, let’s hope so. Unfortunately I am not so sure given the behaviour in the local last night. People started off on their tables of 6 but after a few drinks there was plenty if mixing between tables and social distancing went out of the window. Many of the patrons looked too young to have had the jab yet and they were the worst offenders. Hopefully being outside will have helped but it will be interesting to an eye on the infection rates on the next few weeks.
The prices in our local have also increased sharply since the latest lockdown. We have a cheap and not so cheerful Merlot which has gone from £15 to £20. I know they have had a rough time of it, but if they want to encourage their regulars back regularly, this is not the way to go

The China virus has killed the pub industry (almost)

Hardly, every pub is going to be rammed this summer, especially with no one going abroad

I don’t know any round here, apparently the year before the virus it was the 1st in ages that more pubs opened than closed, I think there’s gonna be a huge bounce back in the economy.

It was taking the brakes away that led to the massive death toll. Thankfully the last lockdown kept it below half a million. We do need to open up, but one step at a time. The last thing we need is a third lockdown.

Do you not find it strange that in most western countries who have wildly different approaches have very similar infection rates with this thing?

I assume we will see another MASSIVE surge any moment, given hardly anyone has been properly adhering to the rules for months

Yes I agree but people need to take responsibility themselves I expect there will be a lot of hypocrites who blame the brakes coming off yet probably went to their local and mixed on the very first day lockdown ended rather than taking a measured approach. I for one certainly didn't and stayed home to support the Saints.

Trust no one in a circus.

Nice dig but I did stick to Boris’s rules.

I've just done my first volunteer shift at a vaccination centre, 1400 people over 3 shifts. vaccination is the only sure way to stop a 3rd wave, especially with people's desire for foreign holidays, and the government's propensity to cave in to that demand. My second jab on Wednesday next week. I know it is not the be all and end all of it, but is the best hope we have of a normal life going forward.
