Genius of a man who spoke or understood ten languages including Urdu and Farsi , not bad for a racist
His robots of blood is misquoted vis a vis a Roman quotation
People are so utterly ignorant

A brilliant , brave man , who also knew Welsh

We have nobody with a fraction of his intellect or integrity

Powell's career was trashed by his own Party because of his views on immigration, but he did some positive things when a minister that few remember now. The 1962 Powell Hospital plan brought a huge expansion in NHS capacity and a network of DGHs that carried us through until our problems since the Millennium. His concern about conditions in large psychiatric hospitals helped support the move to community care. He was a strong supporter of slum clearance and housing improvement. He was critical of events connected with the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya and condemned the portrayal of deceased Mau Mau prisoners as "sub-human" as immoral. He wasn't a saint but neither was he the racist savage that some claim. The Powell family originated from Wales and Enoch's great grandfather was a coal miner.
