Covid Pandemic Loan Still To Be Paid 14:32 - May 7 with 1619 viewsUTS1885

Maybe its an accounts thing, but as it stands we still havent paid the £80M loan from MSD Holdings that we took out in 2020. I cant remember, if this was built into the sale of the club or not. Its interest has been a mind blowing £800,000 a month since we got the loan.

I posted this last month:

We'll have the biggest debt in the Championship. The club's debt was last reported at £90 mill but after recent transfers it must be well over £100 mill now. So, we'll be in a similar situation to Bolton and Derby when they were relegated.

Since I posted that, someone has suggested, that after all the money spent on transfers and players' wages the debt might be closer to £200 mill now. I guess we'll find out.

Obviously, we'll sell anyone we can this summer but we're still going to be left with a lot of players on ridiculously high wages, nobody else wants, like Alex McCarthy.

Poll: How many Pompey fans post on here, pretending to be Saints fans?

Exactly that Dirk .

Yet some fans think that we will have lots of money to spend next season in the championship. I can’t see it we will need to sell any player we can get decent money for just to reduce the debt .

We have about 2 season to get the debt down and reduce our out goings before the tv money drops even further . I think it drops 55% next season .

Those that think Sports Republic will put more money in obviously don’t know about the FFP rules in the football league .

I think it was you who said the team that finished bottom generally don’t come straight back up .

And all the fans thinking we will win loads cos the championship was fun obviously don’t remember the 2 seasons we were shlt.

Yes, i could fully see it being £200M or more and again i dont no the ramifications of accounts and offsetting tax or whatever. But its a huge amount and although player purchase was done with new shares authorized, it must bring a headache for financial fair play. I doubt there wiill be anymore share capital, so the owner will need to put money in via shirt or stadium sponsorship. The quick way of gettng promoted straight back will need big salaries and PL standard throughout the team. THis worked for Wolves and Brentford but isnt a guarantee.

Incidentally to those not aware the american MSD loan is guaranteed against the stadium/staplewood et all.
