Did we tolerate in 99/00?

If so, why less toleration now?

Genuine questions by the way.

If it was black or white, where was the uproar after Steve Parkin’s first season when we won 8 home games, scored 21 goals at Spotland and only 4 before Christmas?

And that was seen as a period when the club started to move in a positive direction!

For around half the home games we’ve seen some good entertainment, for the rest we haven’t. Criticism of the poor displays have been justified.

Whether or not that is good enough for the decision makers at the club only they will know. Turning up every week with a 50/50 chance of seeing a good game/result is something only individual fans can say meets their criteria. After years (inc recently) of much worse, in my opinion, it’s not bad but incredibly frustrating and totally tiresome for the rubbish games. I acknowledge and agree with those who come away from those matches with serious doubts (see isitme’s post for reasons)

Every manager is judged on results, there have been times McNulty was in trouble if his team didn’t get one during a bad run. So far they’ve responded. That, 5th place and an even chance of a decent game to watch is where we are at right now.

Lose the next three and miss the playoffs? Well, it’s a results business and things change again.

Lower league football team in lack of consistency and sometimes good, sometimes rubbish to watch shocker.

As it pretty much ever was during my time as a Dale fan.

Good summary.

Results dictate mood and the issues you’ve listed have had the biggest impact on results.

Season Ticket Prices Frozen 25/26 season
at 20:51 23 Apr 2025

It’s been said away fans are going to be in Willbutts next season. Doubt they will be anywhere near the Pearl Street if there is a significant move in our own support to that end.

We’ve already seen the away section moved further from the Sandy in the past, so they won’t allow that situation to develop again. It was a mistake not to move the Spennymoor fans once the ticket sales indicated the movement of fans to the Pearl Street.

Another difference from Eastleigh game was the return of many of the younger fans in the centre of the Sandy.

The ‘Fan Card’ being reduced to a fiver is good btw. Not so sure about prices increasing on a matchday though, would need to see what the increase is.

This from a Burnley fan who goes home and away:

‘mix between Kompany and Dyche. Get in front and happy with what they got. Possession based short goal kicks etc. Recycle the ball a lot. Our defence means we only have to create one chance to win a game and we usually take it’

The comparison was to show about how winning games matters above all. We haven’t won enough.

That’s it, they’ve got results all season long especially during crucial stages of the campaign. However, they’ve also drawn a quarter of their games 0-0.

Dale have actually scored more goals as well… but that’s only one comparison and it will almost always be results that determine mood.

Rodney hasn’t played centre forward at all recently. It’s either been Bird, Mitchell or Henderson.

We do show those qualities then so it’s unfair to say the manager and the players don’t have the desire or a winning mentality.

Inconsistency, squad construction and tactical approach have been our issues all season long. The manager takes responsibility for these areas.

Today was lacklustre throughout, yet to see anyone say much different.

Two games running, two black shorts clashes.

Very true!

But at least it’d be a consistent argument.

Your earlier post says “… today's performance tells me that the manager and the players don't have the desire or the winning mentality”

I drew attention to this as unfair by using an example where we did show desire and a winning mentality. A game that took place three days ago. At no stage was there any excuse given for what we’ve seen today.

There’s no deflection, it’s pointing our inconsistencies as a team - which is perfectly illustrated by your post on Friday:
“ We went toe to toe with a decent Altrincham team in their own back yard and beat them with energy, desire and a fighting spirit. We played a game of football how it should be played and it was enjoyable to watch.”

I’ve yet to read any excuses for today, but I’ve only seen a few bits on Twitter and on here. There certainly doesn’t appear to be any contentment, well there wasn’t in the Sandy today. Frustration would be the word that is more appropriate. And that has been reflected on here.

Who thinks today’s performance is acceptable?

There’s no excusing how we played and the lack of tactical changes to try and lift the performance, but three days after a game where we saw desire and a winning mentality in abundance, it’s unfair to question those qualities as not existing.

Whether the squad has been built with enough players who can lift the levels in those areas is another matter.

That rigid tactical choice with the formation will never be understandable. It’s like for like every time and the other team never have to think. They continue to defend, just against a different player.

Ayinde, despite glimpses, has done nothing for me all season long. With so many of his ilk in that position who don’t offer a significant difference apart from fresh legs.

“at all times”

Criticism has to be factual. Were they told to be cautious in the previous two games?

If not, that is not “at all times”.

Where the manager fell short today was his inability to effect change when the oppositions were more than happy to sit in deep. That is a factual season long failing.

Oh and Adu Poku played on both wings today. And was just as ineffectual on either side. Edit edit.

Ever? 08/09 we stumbled into the playoffs with an awful run, one win in the eight.

With so many teams out of form, those in places 4-7 won’t have a chance on paper. Southend would still be the wildcard for me.

Mitchell had a chance today, his selection made sense after Henderson has started so frequently allied to how well the no.9 has done against Fylde. Not only did he not take that chance, he managed to reinforce how crucial Henderson will be for the remainder of the season. A totally baffling display.
