He had 3 goal scoring opportunities and got himself in position to do so. A bit more composure and he could have had a hat trick. He’s more than good enough for a place in the first team squad and can build from there. That’s ultimately why he’s here and he looks hungry for more. That is the club strategy is it not? |

That’s why there should be more players involved in the press, although that potentially leaves the door open for balls through the channels or over the top. We do have a tendency to sit deep and go to press the defenders just inside their own half of the pitch, which suits us and maintains our defensive shape and structure. |

Possession stats are now just meaningless twaddle. The players with the most touches these days tend to be the centre halves. Van Dyke leads the way in the Premier. Tells you all you need to know. |

Handsome Ronnie had a serious perm going on yesterday. Must have forgot to bring his hair styling products with him. |

As one of Kone’s biggest critics, hands up today, I thought he had a great game. Control was far better, held up the ball and layed it off to good effect. Also won his fair share of headers and took his goal well. Delighted for him. Fantastic team effort, but I thought Vale had a great game and will blossom into a very important player for us. The lad has great vision and can pick a pass. He will complement Madsen well in this team. Madsen showing his class again. Plays with his head up and with superb composure. Class act. I thought Bennie did well. Missed a couple of decent chances and showed his inexperience, but gave us much needed legs down that right hand side. Should now be a permanent fixture in the first team squad. |

I thought you were describing a certain other striker with very similar, ahem, attributes. Regardless, good luck Michi, top bloke who always tried his best and that is always appreciated. |

The style of football played is entirely dependent upon the capabilities of the players, regardless of the perceived and preferred playing style of the CEO. Naive of those upstairs to expect anything else. |

“How he didn’t take Morgan off after 20 mins baffles me and Dembelle should have gone with him. Where were the older experienced pros at the end to take control I would rather we put out some of the younger players than some of our current team” Make your mind up. You want the older pros on or you would rather have the young players. The older, experienced heads were on at the end. Ultimately there was a mix of both, which is as is should be given our squad make up and injury list. We didn’t defend as a team and paid the price. |

The players weren’t having him at all. No desire, no effort, no fight. You could smell it from a mile off. |

Good post SR, agree entirely on every point. Morgan will be a very good player for us, eventually. He is young, hasn’t had much game tame and it shows, but he is capable and is positive with the ball, far more so than Field, Hayden or Varane. Vale had a very good first off, but tired dramatically in the second. Good technique and a tidy player who will also come good. Hugely disappointing to lose the game the way we did, but the lack of composure to manage the game effectively for 5 mins was bizarre. We seemed to pack the six yard box but left countless Wrexham players unmarked outside of it and on the edge of the 18 yard box and failed to close them down. Two quality finishes though. Need to look for the positives, but the absence of Chair and Poku for most of the season has been the killer for me. Expected big things from them both, with the current encumbants just there to cover the odd injury or 3 game weeks. We also need a permanent partner in the middle alongside Madsen, as I’m not convinced any of the currently available 3 are the answer. I’ve made my opinion clear on Kone. I don’t think he has the “tools” for this level, but hope to be proven wrong. |

I don’t think this is the game for Ronnie. In his only full game for Southampton, Kieffer Moore gave him a roasting in the air. Will need Dunne and Cook to try and curb that threat today. |

Kolli comes on as sub, gets a couple of goals and one would think, a half decent run in the side. One game later, and through no fault of his own, is back on the bench. How can you possibly expect him to develop any sort of form or rhythm without playing a decent number of games? WSL Multiview…..somebody please shoot me. |

He has the tools, others simply don’t. It will come. With the right support. |

Not going anywhere giving it back to the opposition either. Madsen seems the only one capable of passing it to his own teammates. |
 | Forum Reply | Madsen at 19:18 21 Jan 2026
He’s not that kind of player and never will be. You can dominate a game with the ball. He needs a destroyer beside him. Don’t recall DeBruyne charging around the pitch tackling box to box. He destroyed teams by moving the ball around in a way that no one could get near him. Admittedly, the players around him knew how to take care of the ball when they received it. |

Agree to a large extent. Has a great touch, scans well and his passing is excellent. Pretty composed too. The apparent lack of creativity is definitely more about the mediocrity around him. With better players in and around him we would as a team be creating far more. The front line has been awful. Poor control, poor positional sense and lack of awareness of where to be and when to make the runs into space or channels. If they did, Madsen is more than capable of providing the service. My favourite ever player is DeBruyne. His passing is exceptional. Perfectly weighted and perfectly timed. Haaland has suffered badly since he left City. Madsen has similar tools but no one on his level to take advantage of them. Feel frustrated for him. |

The team we are currently fielding is close to league one standard, with only a few exceptions. Don’t expect much better on Saturday. |

Ostensibly, most of our best players are crocked. With Chair, Poku, JCS (as if) Burrell, Edwards and perhaps the new striker (one that has pace and can hopefully control a ball) back in the team, we will be a different proposition. I don’t count Varane in that, because I personally don’t rate him either. The two in midfield have a thankless task at the moment because none of those in front can hold the ball and retain possession, so they spend most of the game in ball recovery mode. We have no other choice than to blag our way through the next few weeks with what is available. It hasn’t been pretty and it won’t be pretty on Saturday. Our problem is not a lack of progress despite having spent significant money, it’s the continued disappearance of players through injury. Until we solve that, we are making zero progress. |
