Most dramatic fall

He was good. There was a bit of thrust about him plus he knew how to play right mid. A bit like Martin Allen.

I'd say Johansen and Austin rather than Johansen and Dickie. Dickie and Dunne were the only players who put in creditable performances when we started sliding at the end of that season and Austin just looked like a frustrated Sunday morning League footballer when he couldn't even get in ahead of Andre Grey.

I'm approaching the Chair on the second circuit. I've unseated my rider and am in danger of going off the rails but put me down as a 11/4 odds on to come to the natural finish.

Possibly, but what is the alternative ? Long balls forward down the throats of defenders or onto the heads of strikers who can't get anyone in behind because of the off-side rule.

I don't think playing it out from the back is boring, per se. In fact, it has me on the edge of my seat when we do it. Playing it across the back yes, but out from the back, no. In my opinion.

Yes, it sticks with Chair but Saito has much more attacking intent and I guess mis-control is the price that you have to pay for that (Alfie Lloyd being the prime example). I think given what we need to be doing right now Saito and his propensity to drive forward (albeit at the expense of losing the ball more often) is more what we need.

Smyth,s Goal?
at 21:19 15 Dec 2024

Would be interested to know percentage rate of crosses Dave Thomas landed onto Don Givens' head.

Not saying Paul Smyth is of a similar calibre but let's also not pretend that there are stacks of right wingers that get past their full back every time and deliver an inch perfect cross onto the centre forward's head.

I'd put Paul Smyth's success rate at getting a cross in as no lower than any other right winger that we've had (or that I've seen in the Championship) over the last 15 years.

Can't agree. I thought, when we started playing it out from the back at every opportunity in July/August, that we were going to be conceding goals week in week out from playing it out from the back. Hasn't happened on one occasion and on occasions sees us pulling teams open in the middle of the park and enabling attacks,

That's a shame. Ollie is a legend and the contribution that he made to us and the way he transformed us were super-human. Additionally I thought he had looked into anger management during his time out of the game ? I hope he can turn the situation around.

Yep, Nardi is far too over. He's never reaching that whether or not the ball has been moved. He's got that one wrong.

Agree on the Smyth goal. Not only is the pace good but the timing, decision making and vision are impeccable. He gets any one of those slightly wrong and the ball goes wide or it gets cut off by one of the 3 defenders chasing back. Goal of the season without a shadow of doubt.

Left back, no.10 and striker needed. Andersen and Madsen aren't up to the rigours of the Championship.

Lloyd - Lone Striker Role

He's a decent outlet but it doesn't stick brilliantly. I think Kolli is better when the game is tighter, and on a smaller pitch.

Good point. But even Marti is going to start getting bored of his press conferences if we continue to be so slipshod in possession.

We need a no. 10 that can hold onto the ball. I'd actually say that was more of a priority than a striker or left back in Jan. From Jan we need to look to get Andersen or Madsen, or both, out.

Not a rant but a serious question re the mindset of shooting and passing
at 21:56 12 Dec 2024

In response to the O.P. I'm sure they don't just 'have a go' and almost always pre-meditate where they are trying to put it. With the shots from distance they need to be quite special to beat a professional keeper so the added pressure of having to find a top corner probably means that any slight tweak results in a shot blazing over. I think the goals will come from distance. We will get there.

QPR v Oxfoooooord match thread
at 04:38 12 Dec 2024

I think we are being too hard on the team for the first half. Oxford absolutely flew out of the blocks at the start which was not surprising after not playing for 11 days. They were literally running around like headless chickens. True, we didn't play well but I think after Norwich, who were the polar opposite of Oxford in terms of pace, it was more difficult. No one had any time on the ball. That said, one or two players looked unable to cope with the pace of the game, including Madsen who was dispossesed on a regular basis. I was quite surprised with the booing at half time. It was obvious that Oxford were going to make it difficult for us to play and it was a matter of time before they would run out of steam and we would be able to play our game. I thought Marti did well at half-time, keeping the same players on but getting them to play higher up the pitch and spread Oxford as much as possible so that they would tire more quickly. Good management, as usual, from Marti.

I thought we were fcuked also

The players are coming much better but for me it's the organisation and belief which has been installed by the manager that has turned this around.

I agree re Dembele. He has the attributes to replace Chair.

It's what we do, train them up and sell them on.

I don't know if anyone read the latest Development Squad report but it sounds like there is a 15 year old coming through who is alreay cutting the mustard with the 18 year olds.
