Could we go up.
at 21:11 21 Dec 2025

In a tight league it could come down to GD if teams around 5th to 8th finish on the same points. Our problem is we seem to be perpetually on a minus GD so that could drop us out of the top 6 if it remains negative. We had the chance at half time on Saturday to win 5-0 and move to zero or win 6-0 to get to plus 1. Sadly we lost the second half 1-0 so still have a negative GD therefore an opportunity missed.

Anyway I suspect at least five clubs to spend in January so the likes of Preston, Millwall, Bristol City and us could be squeezed out of contention in the run in.

I agree with your boy. I wanted us to get 6 to pay them back for the 6-2 in the cup and the 5-1 when we got relegated from the Premiership. If I was Jules I would be irritated losing the second half one nil no matter how great we were in the first half. Got to be more ruthless in improving the GD.

I thought we wanted 5 when we were four up against Leeds but maybe I imagined it.

As has been mentioned many times, QPR don't do away games on Boxing Day, a tradition dating back to the year after England won the world cup. I would stay at home in the warm and enjoy a family Christmas 🎄

Fearsomely in-form Boro too hot for QPR to handle – Report
at 22:27 15 Dec 2025

I am trying to look on the light side as we always seem to lose to Norwich and in fact I agree with Hunterhoops post. At least Norwich won their next home game too.

It is Sheffield Wednesday that gets me with us and Norwich as the suckers to give the Owls a point at Hillsborough. Stoke, Bristol City, Sheffield United, Preston and Derby all scored three there to win, even Oxford got two to win and of course, Coventry put five past them. We just scraped a 1-1 draw where everyone else have been filling their boots.

Personally, I feel that the money in the game has made us worse over the years in our approach where we now believe we are a small club which seems to have poisoned the club's approach. We were never like that in the last century but now we seem afflicted and psyched out. We are content drawing at a poor Sheffield Wednesday side as a point away to a big club. The last two away games were lost before we had even got to half time.

I have seen over the years where we have struggled against teams at the bottom but beaten those at the top and thought we might surprise Boro with a better effort against a better side than Norwich. Alas we surprised the Boro fans how bad we looked when they thought we were on a good run of form and would give them a more sterner test. That's what I meant about us paying homage to them as though we weren't worthy to be on the same pitch as a big club. We are far too respectful towards some Championship clubs but that's just my feelings about some of our displays.

The final score was a bit of a triumph for us. Norwich beat us by the same score and looked average whereas Boro played really well for an hour or so and were a cut above. Boro deserved a bigger win for sure. It does seem to be the case with us that when we win away we can't win at home but now we are winning at home our away levels have dropped.

I foolishly thought that as we were rotten against at a team in the bottom three, that the boost of a last kick winner in midweek would see us put up more of a fight at Boro. Silly me...

Perhaps the plan was to pay homage to Boro and give them too much respect. The first half felt like a carbon copy of Norwich letting them dictate the game. The last two away fixtures were akin to Redknapp bonus away games. That is 4 defeats to Boro on the bounce now...

I am thinking Sheffield United will be one of the clubs throwing money at it in January to get into the top 6 which could have a bearing on where they finish. There are clubs in this league with greater spending power than us that could transform their season.

Well those damn Canaries held Sheffield United stopping their winning run.

The reason why people like me get annoyed about us is that we went to Sheffield United, Wednesday and Norwich, all in the bottom three at the time and failed to win. Contrast that with Bristol City who won 4-1 at Bramall Lane, 3-0 at Hillsborough and 1-0 at Carrow Road. And we damn well won at Bristol City! That is what frustrates me that when we face a lame duck we play like one. Having said that I accept that Brizzle played the Blades and Canaries when they had clueless managers so we were unfortunate to miss out on facing them.

But yes I would agree that Sheffield United will probably finish above us so the 0-0 at their place won't look so bad.

Yes that still rankles with me as it would have been the third time I would have seen us come back from four down to draw. No doubt if we had VAR it would have been retaken but the match officials should have called it without any need for help.

It was a huge frustration when Brum scored with their only effort on target but thankfully we got a rare 96th minute winner to rapidly change the mood.

I notice Coventry couldn't beat 10 man Preston but then discovered they haven't won any of their last 24 league visits to Deepdale. Weird how clubs have bogie grounds when it is just grass at the end of the day so it's not just us afflicted by phobia's at certain venues.

That feels good as I am sure we had not beaten them since the 7-1 second half England style batting collapse from us. About time we registered a win in this fixture.

Was that the season we fell away badly in the second half of the season? I regret to say as I get older, one awful season tends to blend in with the many others experienced since 1997 that they overlap. Certainly the last 10 years have largely been forgettable with occasional highlights like beating Leeds 4-0.

Don't forget that Sheffield Wednesday got one of their two home points against us. Everyone else has won there basically scoring at least three in the process. We don't score enough goals to take the pressure off the defence.

If Norwich still had the manager that lost seven home games on the bounce we might have got something but getting a new man in is a fresh start and bad timing for us. The other issue is I read in the last 42 meetings with Norwich, we have only won 9 compared to 22 wins for them so it seems ingrained in us they are a big club so we generally go to Carrow Road with a defeatist attitude.

Last season's 3-0 home win was our first victory over Norwich for years and Kolli scored twice. Alas this manager thought Frey was a better option today whereas the Norwich defence might have been more concerned facing Kolli. Now we face West Brom, another team who have done us 7-1 and a team we haven't beaten for a few years.

I agree about your comments that Warburton would have us playing better football but one advantage he had was Eze who was a cut above. We don't have anyone as good as Eze now. It was the same way with Warnock who had Taarabt but you have to wonder if Warburton and Warnock would have have had a more difficult job without the likes of Eze and Taarabt who were the best in the Championship. Our recent managers have not had such gifted individuals to beat ordinary opponents like we faced today.

Oxford must be better than us looking at their results this week against the Anglia sides. The Canaries and Tractor Boys made absolute fools of us in our meetings. We have a knack of looking like a league 1 side like today. As soon as we get around a play off spot we go to pieces like a fish out of water before scurrying back to 16th and calmer waters. Mental weaklings continue to sign for this club season after season.

Yes not good for us today that Norwich had a new manager who should have won both home games. Had we played Norwich with the previous manager who lost all 7 home games we might not have lost. Just our luck the nabager changed shortly before our visit. I can just see Leicester getting a new man in just before we play them.

Sorry to bang on again about Coventry but once again they won every game in a 3 game week. You have to admire their consistency.

Coventry have won every game in three games in 8 days schedules and have notched up another two this week. Two down on Saturday they still win and tonight away from home they score two late goals to win. No signs of being tired with travelling and short game turnarounds so they clearly have the right mental attitude to handle it. The manager has to take credit for that.

The Norwich manager isn't that good. He masterminded Rangers losing at home to Queens Park in one of the biggest Scottish cup upsets ever. He didn't last much longer at Ibrox after that so we have nothing to fear so long as we don't psyche ourselves out that we rarely win at Carrow Road.

Ultimately the problem with us is we couldn't win at Sheffield Wednesday who haven't won at home and now we play at Blackburn with just one home win and Norwich also with zero home wins. This week will be a test of our mentality.
