Southampton At West Ham United The Verdict
at 12:52:11

Call me a cynic but this is a team of individuals desperate to prove they are better than their abject performances so far. The bulk of the team won't be here next year. Ramsdale, THB, Fernandes, Dibling will help balance the books. KWP, Stephens and Lesley are out of contract. Bednarek, Kamaldeen, Downes, Onuachu and Archer are all hoping for moves or loans. Rusk will be hoping for a lower league manager's job. No problem with the performance but let's no kid ourselves that they are committed to being the spine of the championship side next year.

Forgotten Men Could Play Crucial Part For Saints Next Season
at 13:59:23

I really hope Sport Republic and Johannes Spors are working hard on next season behind the scenes and not waiting for the new manager. Spors will appoint the manager and should know both the preferred style of play, those players that will be here and those that will leave to balance the cost of relegation end of contract etc. One thing that helped Saints after the last relegation was that Wilcox and Martin were clearly on the same page.

Who Wil Return From The Cold For Southampton After Juric Exit
at 14:39:10

Saints need to use the early relegation to prepare for next year. Decide who is staying and send them on holiday after Easter to return early for an extended pre-season with the new manager. Let those that are going, play out the meaningless last seven games- self interest should ensure they put in some sort of shift. Double Fernandes' pay and refuse to sell him!

German Club In Contact With Southampton About Winger
at 15:28:43

I guess this stuff will continue as infinitum for months now. Of the starting team at Anfield it is very possible that only Smallvine and Manning will be here next year given the loan returns, those out of contract and those that need to be sold/ want to leave. Given that Juric is also likely to go, the rest of the season as an indicator of Saints future seems pretty irrelevant.

Southampton V Burnley The FA Cup Preview
at 17:25:25

Juric was pretty clear in his press conference. He will play a strong team on a match by match basis unless the games are very close together. I expect it to be a similar team to the Ipswich game with Wood coming in for THB. He also explained that Armstrong instigated the loan, presumably to get game time and his confidence back. If he scores loads great, his value increases and he might even come back in the summer to sign a new contract ( unlikely) .

Adam Armstrong Leaves For West Bromwich Albion On Loan
at 17:04:38

I think despite his work rate his confidence is gone in front of goal. A good end of the season at West Brom getting a few goals in the championship is much better than being a periferal figure in the Premier League missing the odd chance that might come his way. As you say it's all about next season. We know that anybody of any value will be sold and I think Armstrong will be in the final year of his contract. Either his value might increase or he will sign a new contract.

Southampton At Nottingham Forest The Verdict
at 15:18:15

Being competitive for 45 mins isn't really much to shout about. Most mid table championship sides can be competitive against a Premier League outfit for part of any game but still will ship three goals at some point! Saints are simply in the wrong division and the ridiculous euphoria and hype that followed the Play off final masked that fact. As a result, with the exception of Ramsdale, the transfers were squad players or like for like replacements rather than quality upgrades meaning the first team squad is essentially the same as the one that came fourth in the championship. It's been a heavy price to pay for a good day out at Wembley.

Sulemana To Stay At Southampton ! Amo-Ameyaw To Go Out On Loan
at 15:45:02

Kamaldeen, Onuachu and ABK are all currently worth tuppence halfpenny if they can be offloaded. Maybe the plan is to play them in the forlorn hope that their value might rise sufficiently to get rid in the summer. Currently only Ramsdale, THB, Dibling and Fernandes will generate any transfer funds. For the rest it's about getting as much of their wages off the books before next season.

Southampton V Brentford The Verdict
at 16:21:28

I think SR joined RM in the love-in and hype that surrounded promotion after the play-off final. Keeping that team together (THB, Downes, Frazer) was the priority in the transfer window plus doing the usual "squad for the future" thing with ( Edwards, Wood). Sugarawa was meant to be a replacement for KWP, Fernandes for Stu Armstrong and Archer for Che. None were upgrades and in truth only Ramsdale is a clear upgrade and that is because of Bazunu's injury and McCarthy being hopeless in the opening games. RM genuinely believed that he had turned Stephens, Bednarek, Aribo, Armstrong, Manning, Smallbone etc into really good players when playing the RM way!. He was totally deluded. As SR stated when they sacked him they had completely underestimated the gulf between the Premier League and the Championship. We are left with a team in the wrong division regardless of who is the manager. Getting rid of RM was too late to make any difference and the team now looks utterly disillusioned and confused. I guess they believed the hype as well!

Do Southampton Cut Their Losses Now On This Season And Cash In On Kyle Walker Peters
at 18:08:01

I think KWP will stay for all the reasons above. I'm sure Saints would sell if they could. I'd get as many of next years team out on loan. Ronnie Edwards is a good move. Sam Amo, Bazunu, Larios if fit should follow. Ramsdale, THB, Dibling, Fernandes will go in summer. Downes, Aribo, Archer, Onuachu and ABK need to play if they are to get a move.

Southampton V Everton The Preview
at 20:26:56

Saints are going down. We can either go down with RM and maintain some sense of stability or create chaos by sacking him, still going down and having to start all over again. Saints, Ipswich and Leicester are the three worst teams (Wolves). Going down isn't the end of the world as was proved last year. The EPL is the holy grail for owners, managers and players but for supporters, I would suggest winning more games, playing attractive football and having a positive atmosphere playing local youngsters is more important.

Where Will Russell Martin's Thinking Be For Leicester Game

I think Saints have probably committed to RM for the next four PL games. Three of which must be won if he is to keep his job beyond the final international break.

Southampton At Arsenal The Verdict
at 21:57:27

An average start to the season would have seen us with 5/6 points ( win against Ipswich and 2/3 draws against Forest, Bournmouth and Brentford) the next four should yield 7 points if we are in the mix at the bottom half of the table. RM needs 3 wins to make up the lost ground. 10points after 11 games would be ok. Big ask!

Six Could Potentially Leave Southampton On Deadline Day
at 09:25:10

Apparently the Dutch and Turkish leagues are still open so with our window closed there could still be an exit route for Onuachu, ABK and Kamaldeen. It's a shame Edozie didn't get his loan and Manning didn't get a move back to the EFL as he won't get much game time at Saints. Could be a good window for Goztepe.

Southampton At Cardiff The Carabao Cup Verdict
at 14:06:01

I think ABK despite his obvious talents burnt his boats last year when he made it clear he wanted to leave and had no intention of playing with Saints in the championship. I think RM places great store on team spirit, character etc and I think it would send a very bad message to the squad if ABK played against Brentford. Yesterday was simply a shop window display to show he is fit having failed the medical. I wonder whether Ralph might take him at Wolfsburg as they appear to have lost their CB to Palace.

Southampton V Nottingham Forest the Preview

Amazed if it's not the same starting line up as last week with a couple of changes on the bench. Whilst we've strengthened the squad RM seems committed to giving this players that got us promotion and are still here the opportunity to show they are good enough for the Premier League.

Southampton Sign Portuguese Midfielder
at 22:07:30

With the exception of a GK on loan, that must be the last of the additions. Now it's presumably an exodus to pay for them - KWP, ABK (medical allowing), Charles, Alcaraz, Kamaldeen, Onuachu and Mara at a guess. I really hope that Fernandes is better than Alcaraz but I'm not holding my breath.

Vacancy- Ball Playing Goalkeeper Wanted Apply St Mary's Stadium
at 18:29:12

I'm guessing that McCarthy got a new contract because he had been with us for the year, was a good character in training and had improved his distribution in accordance with RM's preferred style. He also did well having stepped in for the play-offs. However, I suspect the real reason will be the lack of alternatives who are content to keep the seat warm for Bazunu and will be financially viable and an upgrade. Sam Johnstone might be an option but has many of the same issues as McCarthy.
