I could not believe my eyes when I saw the team selection.

Kyle Walker
Why play Warrd Prowse when he wasn't fit. Theo Walcott is no longer the player he was and that is why Everton got rid of him. Best option for him is on the bench. You would get more effort from Shane Long.
I am really concerned this year as we haven't got a quality CH who can command the area and keep the other defenders on their toes.
Its going to be very tough to keep a respectable score line on Sunday. |

Agree with most of the posts.
Leeds sucked us in to their tactics. Absorb the Saints attacks and don't venture forward too much especially in numbers in the first half. In the second half up the tempo as Saints will have tired a lot for their first half efforts and the chances will come although I put down both goals courtesy of McCarthy. We all know about the first but the second is puzzling as he had enough time to get to the ball instead of dropping to his knees!.
I thought Stephens was doing ok until he ran into a dead end lost the ball and they scored, although I still think VAR was incorrect in allowing the goal to stand.
The singing of Walcott is a mistake as he is not the player he once was. Che Adams is really not a premiership player and both him and Obafami should be loaned out next season. Inngs should have started the match and not as a sub. Minamino should have started as he did well against Fulham.

Some observations from Saturday:
Adams not good enough for Premiership
Obafami-not good enough for Premiership.
Walcott-return him to Everton, hes more concerned about his hair.
Foster- why he was picked instead of McCarthy. He should have claimed the ball for the first goal, after alll it was in the six yard area.
This playing out from the pack would have your nerves shattered.
Let me get this right: Fraser passes the ball to Jannick who is standing beside him in the six yard box who then looks for someone to pass to which is usually another defender. The fact that he has the ball means he has now only three defenders to pass it to?
Ralphs team selections need to be looked at. He is getting them wrong most of the time.
When we were one nil down we were still passing the ball around at the back instead of getting it up to the front men . The Liverpool centre backs were there for the taking if only the ball was moved forward quicker.
Are we not able to vary our corner kicks? Everyone knows that the corners are trying to find the head of Jannick and mark him accordingly!
Its funny that since Shane Long went on loan we cannot buy a win! |

Nine times out of ten we use the same corner routine.
KWP good going forward but a big ball watcher when defending and slow to get back
Why is Inngs in our own penalty area defending corners when he should be on the half way line occupying two potential attackers
Why bring subs on in the 87 minute when you are 3 down? |

Can anyone tell me why Danny Ings is dragged back to the six yard line when we are defending corners? The ball is cleared and we have nobody up front to challenge the opponents and then they have the run of the pitch to do what they want with the ball. Surely one of the front two should be kept up front to occupy one and maybe two possible attackers?
I was watching Adams during the game and I don't think he has any positional knowhow. He tries hard thats all I can say.
During one of the free kicks that Everton got he double marked an Everton player and left TWO players unmarked behind him. He knew they were there as he looked around and saw them. |

It was hard to believe that we were watching the same team that dominated the first half.
Once the pressing game is stopped we do not have alternative tactics. I reckon the lads have put so much into the first half that they can't sustain the press in the second half allowing the opposition to take control,
When Wolves had a few corners all our outfield players were back in the penalty area, even schoolboy footballers would understand the merit of leaving someone on the half way line?
In the 92th minute we were still playing as if there was a half hour left with the ball going back and forward along the backline. As I said before the more times the ball is in the oppositions penalty area the more opportunity there is to score.
It was worrying to see McCarthy beaten again when the opposition had little or no space to shot at. Unfortunately I'm not sure Fraser is the answer.
As for loaning out players when the the squad is so thin on the ground, who decided this ?? |

I have just discovered how one can get to sleep quicker:
Close your eyes when Saints have the ball at the back and again it gets to the front line you will be fast asleep.
For God's sake there is more than one way to get the ball up to the forwards. In one of Newcastles attacks in the second half we got the ball back but still went with this tippy tappy football which allowed the two Newcastle players to get back. Why do we do the same thing over and over? |

A couple of points:
The defender was ball watching when the cross came in for the goal.
Do Saints defenders know that you cannot be offside from a throw in?
This tippy tappy play along the back allows the other team to get ten players behind the ball and pack the defence. At one point we had the ball at the edge of their penalty area and it landed back in our own half.
In the last ten minutes we upped the tempo and should have scored. Why not play at this tempo for the entire game? |

A lot of criticism for Longs performance last night. It's not easy when you are only getting minutes in previous games. His header at our own post took the ball of the head off the Shrewsbury attacker who looked destined to score. If they had scored would they have gone on to win? A chance set up by Long for Stephens straight in front of the goal was fluffed. I see very little criticism of the newbies some looked out of their depth. |

This win doesn't hide the fact that a lot of defenders are still ball watching. Agreed Jannick overall had a good game but he was still ball watching on a number of occasions. Kyle earned the penalty and he was good going forward but defensively he was poor,. A couple of times BHA could have scored if they had used their head as Kyle was slow to get back and when he does he drifts in towards the CB's leaving the left wing completely open. Other than that the team battled well in the second half and just shaded the game. |

Overall a good point earned. However only for McCarthy it could have been 3 or 4 one.
Walker Peters going forward is good but defensively he is poor particularly his defensive positioning. He seems to wander towards the CB's and forgets the winger.
We are taking far too much time to get the ball forward to the front men. We are passing the ball around the backs far too much, many times not getting anywhere. The play needs to be varied as Wolves were able to second quess what Saints were going to do with ball.
As I said before the more times we get the ball in the box the more chances we have to score. |

As I said in my previous post Valery and Obafami need to be sent out on loan as they are not Premier players at the moment.
What position was Valery supposed to be playing? Half of the time it looked like he was playing as a right winger?
Obafami was poor overall and did very little right for the time he was on.
RH seems to make strange decisions as both players mentioned above were very poor in the last game even though we won.
Last night we were into the old habit of tiipy taping the ball along the back line instead of getting the ball up to the front. The more times you get the ball into the penalty area (the opponents!) the more chance you get to score. McCarthy was poor also but the first error he made has been coming for a while as he was nearly caught a few times in earlier games. |

Lets face it Valery is not a RB or anything in defence.He ball watches too much.. He would be more suited to play on the right hand side of midfield if at all.
PEH played yesterday as if he was trying not to get injured, thought he was poor overall.

On another note I can't believe that Spurs are actually interested in PEH! As midfielders go he is only average and I would take Steven Davis instead any day. Maybe Spurs see something that I can't and hasn't been shown in a Saints shirt. |

Why do the players constantly pass the ball across the back line and some times backwards with no apparent danger? The more times you get the ball into the penalty area the more chance you have of scoring. So lets get the ball up to the attackers quicker. Our build up play is painfully slow which allows the other team to get numbers back, this has been going on far too long.
The corner kicks yesterday , just booting the ball into the area and hope for the best were what you would expect of schoolboy footballers.
PEH needs to loose the captaincy as its harming his game, he was particularly bad yesterday.
RH needs help as he is making some foolish selections and his substitutions don't make sense. |

I didn't see all the game but here is my thoughts on what I did see:
Playing 3 at the back doesn't work for the players at Saints, they don't know how to play it.
How may goal have we conceded from the right full position?
Ward-Prowse and Romeu are at best Championship players, yet they have played most games.
Playing players out of position in friendlies is ok but when it comes to the real thing you have to play them in the positions they were signed for.
I like Ralph and his attitude but he needs help as soon as possible from someone who has experience as he seems to have lost his way since Danny left. I'm not saying this lightly but Saints board need to act immediately or else.
