The 4-1 in Oct 89 was probably the best I have ever seen a Saints team play. 4-2-4 with a young team with no fear.
Other notable wins were 3-2 in Apr 83 (my second match, and Holmes scoring a beauty), and the 3-2 in 2016 from 2-0 down.
Also, a 3-2 win up there in 98. I was in the home end to the right of the Saints fans. The Scousers around me sussed me, and plied me with whisky. Great afternoon.
That late Saturday 1-0 defeat was good for Strachan's reaction. The team was so poor that he apparently got them in for training at 10am the next day. He turned up at 12 and said "You wasted two hours of everyone's time yesterday, I have wasted two hours of yours today". I hope that is true.
I feel dirty, and compare this to standing on the Fratton End, but have to point out that the Badenoch quote is from a parody Twitter account. The fact everyone believes it says what we know they are capable of
Off to sing The Red Flag, whilst memorising the little red book to cleanse myself for sticking up for them
Working in Basingstoke, I think Aldershot are probably the 4th most supported team with my match going colleagues after Saints, Palace & Chelsea. The Shots fans see Reading as their natural rival but don't particularly like Woking. Eastleigh haven't really registered with them.
And as long as I finish work in time, I am off to watch Winchester Saturday as I have a season ticket there and I haven't used it yet
He was on my train about 4/5 years ago and we were having a chat. Fair to say that he is getting on a bit and that was coming across. I spoke to him about when I first started going to the match and how great it was watching the likes of Moran, Wallace, Williams and Wright. Instantly, he turned back in to the housewife's favourite of that early 80s period and was the larger than life character we knew. He told me the story of Moran playing for Sarisbury Sparks and the promise of new boots if he scored a hatrick. A well known story from the era, but he was telling me! It was a great moment for me and you could tell the love he had for his team.
Pat gave me a kiss at HT at Fratton when we stuffed them the other year. I think that kiss changed him and woke up some dormant feelings within him, and he has barely missed a game since. And it's to his credit. π π
