I mean upon being relegated rather than now - not a premier league level player (as the FA cup showed). Absolutely don’t want him to go and think it would take quite a bit to convince us to sell. But if we’re talking about which of our players would be of interest to other teams I think he’s right up there. |

Yeah broadly agree. The mood music seems to be Varane and Dembele, I’d guess both back to the continent. I wouldn’t be selling Madsen unless it’s silly money. Him and Burrell are irreplaceable in current set up (Obikwu not withstanding but doubt he’s going to be ready made yet), and our problems moving the ball up the pitch won’t be helped by a 1 in 1 out situation with Madsen. We need at least 1 if not 2 Centre-Mids to come in who can pass a football 10 yards forwards. The curious one for me is Jimmy. Neck and neck with Madsen for POTY (given Burrell’s injuries). Always fit, dominant, defends his box as well as anyone at the level, suits the current zeitgeist of football (more direct, physical, transitional). Not a premier league signing but if I’m Wolves / West Ham he looks like exactly the sort of player and character you’d want to be bringing in. Don’t want him to go at all, but I think he’s undervalued and never in these conversations |

That’s a f-ing awful performance against a crap team. Given we’re going to be stranded in mid table for rest of season, try something. Safe boring football playing out 0-0s at relegation fodder. Pathetic |

Dembele the only one playing with an ounce of quality. The lack of threat from both teams is astonishing. Insert two re***** fighting meme |

Bordering on must win for them. I don’t think we’ve been playing very well for a while now, basically since the first half against Leicester. I’m very much in the camp of “headed to the beach” so the nature of performances has to start to be our focus more than results. A draw is fine, but we can’t repeat the performance levels of Stoke/Norwich/WBA here. They’re crap, go and be a bit brave [Post edited 20 Jan 13:15]

Yeah that’s a fair point. I’m not hammering Morgan by any means, I just don’t think he’s going to come in and make us all that much better on the ball. If anything I think he’s more suited to way we play at the moment. Given Hayden’s age and injury record he should definitely be in with a shout to start next to Madsen at some point soon. Totally agree re:Chair, when he plays we are much more fluid irrespective of system. I think he’s being underestimated by a lot of our fan base now we have other shiny toys. Still the best player at the club by a distance for me. [Post edited 19 Jan 14:05]

I’d add that while Morgan is a good young player - he’s not going to come in and revolutionise our ability to keep the ball. JS identified in August that this squad isn’t that capable of playing keep ball, so setting up differently to do so feels unlikely. Maybe if, big if, you get Ronnie and JCS on the pitch at the same time that changes. But until then I’d be reticent to go 433 with current midfielders. There is a reason Madsen plays every minute, no other (senior) players can pass it forward 15 yards. Summer priority no2 (after a decent LB who can actually play 3 games a week) |

This. So many having their cake about performance levels while previously saying we are a weak club who can’t battle through a long injury list etc. Went for 0-1, got 0-0. Move on |

Given as of today we have 4 senior goalkeepers in the squad, I doubt we’ll be signing anyone unless there are outgoings. The fumbling (pardon the pun) of that position continues |

I don’t think anybody can look at the start to the season, the fact Hayden was free all summer, and the fact he wanted to join and not concede it was quite obviously a panic buy after a gubbing. That said, I don’t think Field, Smyth, Chair and to a lesser extent Dunne have done anything to suggest they are leaders. Either in the way they act on the field or the way they play (Dunne improving on that recently so may become one). If you’re going to deploy this approach of spending all your money on shiny u24s then you need someone in the building who has actually achieved things before and understands what it takes to succeed. That’s why I’m reticent to ship too many Haydens Cooks et al at once and why I don’t think the Hayden signing was/is a bad thing even if he’s no more than a squad player. For what it’s worth I wouldn’t sell Field either, but only because you’ll get nothing for him. This model only works when we’re selling players for good money as you say H. Selling a Field or Smyth for a few hundred grand is nigh on pointless. He’s more good to us on the books than in the bank imo. |

Just back. Thought we did well overall. Lack of options from bench killed us, for first 20 minutes of second half looked the team in ascendency but the subs from both sides swung game (as expected against any prem team). Kolli stand out for me. Showed for it well, linked well, held the ball well. Can’t fault the team or manager, did all they really could with injuries etc. As for that stadium / general match day experience…give me LR every day of the week. If a ground move means anything resembling that Reading, Swansea, et al I’ll give up my ST now. Apocalyptic place to watch football |

Appreciate all the possible concerns about cost, recent playing time, and not getting into a poor saints team. But sometimes players just fit certain clubs. No brainer |

Nail on head. Turning 18 year old free agents into wonderkins isn’t a sustainable model. Buying a lot of high potential u23/4s is a more sustainable model. And based on the evidence of our eyes (not Southampton’s) he has very high potential indeed |

We cannot as a club say we want to develop players and give youth a chance, when presented with an injury list then say send him out in on loan and get someone else in. When we signed Chris Martin Clive pointed out how absurd it was that we didn’t have any kids in the building capable of filling in for a few weeks. Now we have Kolli and another - so you bloody play them and see. We’re not gonna go up, we’re quickly getting to a comfortable point to try some of these guys out. Win win |

Yes it’s a lot. But he’s either our best CB for 5 years or we sell him for more. Worth every penny. |

Clive keeps his receipts - like a good little tax paying boy. |

Unconvincing, but got the win. Kolli’s finishes really good. Hope he gets a run now (assuming Burrell is out for a while). Probably couldn’t have asked for a better opponent given our dip in form. They would do well to beat a League 2 team (not that it’s their fault). |
