I didn't see too much of a problem playing out from the back. Liverpool are one of the best pressing teams and their press forced us to play out through our full backs (when playing out through the centre we looked dangerous) who are willing but limited. We created several very good chances. Our substitutions weakened us I thought.
Rothwell looks very good as did Charles, Edosie, Aribo, Stephens and Bednarek.
Good, enjoyable game which was played in a good spirit.
PS. I would like to see us win at Anfield.

Good performance all round I think. I like Tino and he is performing very well. However, not sure he's better than KWP. I like the look of Perraud and he is a natural left back and he stretches the opposition as he attacks on the outside. The team looks better balanced when he plays. I think Broja has shown us something different - he should play with Adams or A Armstrong because that gives opposition defences more to think about.
I agree with Salisu as MOTM, and I was also impressed with Diallo, Moussa and Elyounoussi. Moussa's pass to Redmond for the goal was delicious. Redmond played very well too.
I would like to point out that Leeds played as well as we let them.

Notgwithstanding the 3 - 4 score, this was not a close game. Villa were awarded a very dubious penalty (was it even a foul?). Their 3rd goal was in 97th minute when 6 minutes extra time were long gone.
I thought this was terrific performance, Wouldn't it be brilliant if we could win on Friday..... |

Not pretty but effective. Moving Cedric to the left tightened things up nicely and I'd forgotten how good he is in the attacking third. Commendable performances from Maya, Jan, Oriel, Pierre, Che and Soufianne. According to the statistics United had 17 attempts off target which is the price we pay when they break the press. Having said that, Moussa's goal came from the press. I think he still needs to fully integrate - he was getting frustrated in the first half when making runs but the ball didn't arrive.
A long journey home made pleasant by the result. |

Good to see Yosh back. My impression at the time was Gunn might have saved their second. Overall, I thought we played quite well and could have had a draw. Tactically, I thought Ralph had it right - the Liverpool fullbacks were pushed back, we were very compact. I thought Oriol was immense and I am becoming very frustrated with Andre Mariner's decisions.

An interesting game. I thought we ran out of gas at the end. There is no disgrace in losing to a team of Liverpool's calibre. I am tired of officials getting decisions wrong - Liverpool's first..... I have no problem with Saints going for it at 1 - 1 but perhaps we could have both full backs in the centre circle to deal with breakaways when we commit everyone else forward. I thought Pierre was outstanding, our back 3 were very solid and our mid field excellent. Klopp had to bring on Henderson and Milner to turn things round for them. I thought Saints were very good for most of the game. |

Constantly changing the manager has got us into this mess. Puel and Pellegrino didn't have time to turn things round. Sacking Puel (in hindsight was a big mistake). We need some continuity and 2 new strikers - Long and Austin need replacing straight away. Promote 2 of our young strikers and give them a run. After all they can't score less........
One little whinge about visiting teams - I am sick to death of teams parking the bus. They show no inclination to make a game, they shut up shop and hope to nick a goal... it's boring. |

On the train to Wembley we had a discussion with some Man Utd fans about the possible result. We all agreed it would end 1-0, but disagreed about who would win. One of the Manchester fans said "On the train home, I hope the steps are slippery with your tears".
He got his wish.
Saints gave a tremendous performance and I feel very proud. |
